Pragmata review – soulful sad dad saga in stunning outer space Engineer Hugh is sent from Earth to investigate a malfunctioning research station and meets a young android who helps him fend off murderous mechs

www.theguardian.com/games/2026/a...

I had an absolute blast with Pragmata, my favourite game of 2026 so far.

Despite its sparkling near-future setting, Pragmata succeeds because it feels like a throwback to gaming’s recent past. It’s a beautifully-made, heartfelt single player adventure

Ahoy! The scammers are here! I woke up to this old chestnut, and since Bluesky is pretty new, I thought it might be helpful to show y'all how this one works. A scammer will reach out for work, and it'll be really vague - a piece of his kid, or suddenly four, it doesn't matter, he doesn't care.

Engineers are often judged by their output. That criteria alone makes David a rockstar. His body of work speaks for itself--he's driven, experienced, passionate, and talented beyond belief. Setting aside the obvious, David is also a joy to work with. He's the quiet pragmatic voice whispering your ear: "Are you sure we should do that? There's a better way." He's a voice of reason, a problem solver, a sounding board, and so dedicated to the project and the team, you can't imagine how you'll live without him. It would be an honor to work with David again.

David was the backbone of every project I worked on at Question. His technical expertise runs deep and broad – crafting everything from uncannily clever card battler AI, complex attribute and status effect plumbing, to scalable VO delivery for both systemic combat events and scriptable designer implementation – all with an eye for frictionless player experiences. David can make and polish anything, which gives him a powerful measure for scope. On every project he championed the achievable, ensuring consistent progress and morale, accurate prioritization, and expansive team education. I would work with him again in a heartbeat.

David is one of the most talented engineers I have ever worked with. His ability to chase down the weirdest, most perplexing bugs and fix them with a line or two of code is impressive to say the least, and there were times that he had to solve problems that frankly no one else on the team could solve. That makes it pretty easy to overlook that he's so much more than a world class engineer. He's also got fantastic design instincts and a broad understanding of everything that goes into making a game. That really showed when he stepped up into his role as Technical Director. Engineering was a well-oiled machine that always hit or exceeded our goals for each milestone. As a lead, he was always supportive, fair, and quick with a simple answer to even complicated or thorny situations. Beyond all that, he's just a really good human being.

Every team has that developer that you give all the hard problems to… those intermittent bugs that repro only in release builds on Steam in multiplayer… solo console porting on the PS4… Graphics shader bugs… on our team, that person was David. Aside from being an avid gamer that seems to play everything, he has also demonstrated keen pragmatism when it comes to design and scoping issues. As his former engineering lead, I have always felt that the two of us were largely interchangeable, but to be honest, he always had the edge on the pure technical side of things. Our team at Question would not have been able to punch above our weight as much as it did without David acting as the team’s heavy hitter engineer.

It's unfortunate for all of us that it took me getting laid off for me to get this kind of feedback, but I am extremely grateful for it, all things considered.

Was just watching a challenge run set by the devs of a game that got me thinking. I would love to be able to do those kinds of public requested runs for early access, new or in dev releases if they have enough #accessibility in! #A11y

30+ year old gamers keep the console model going at this point. We are used to actually spending money on games. We buy £580 Lego Pokémon sets. We're clearly going to be purchasing and playing high-end games until we die. It will surely be profitable to make things for us for a long time yet

There’s no real guidance, you’re kind of left to figure things out on your own.
Some bits of lore and NPCs are there, but not everything is obvious or in plain sight.
The idea is that the story slowly comes together only if you’re curious enough to pay attention.

Seems like people are willing to pay for SOLID, intentionally designed co-op games.
