Interesting application of trauma-informed care...

I think irrespective of the Hong Kong context it's a helpful perspective to have.

I also wonder how much her biracialness plays into it, but she doesn't really have a very prototypical "Chinese" vibe, but as proximate to second-gen she is super relatable, including all the anime preferences...

"Chinese" as in China social media platforms.

Because she's technically Mandarin speaker, it's not a prominent thing for Hong Kongers either. I guess it's a thing for Taiwanese but we only have so many of them around these parts.

But there are so many similarities that we have with Bay Area...

I'm kind of upset at the lack of connection to Alysa Liu around these parts here in the Greater Toronto Area among the Chinese diaspora. I think for one, Chinese social media is either hugely suppressing of her or there's just a lack of interest. I asked a couple of kids and they also had no idea.

Literally just came across it now, this is like one of few videos of you being on video at all. Anyways appreciate your work, so many of us with our backgrounds have no idea about our histories as diaspora from Hong Kong and Christians. Keep safe out there.

Honestly I'm not as upset with Eileen Gu, her absentee father being one of those factors. I think she has it in her to do advocacy later on, at least that's what my gut tells me.

Seems like she also was diagnosed with ADHD during that stretch. It also explains why she's studying psychology now. She's more self-aware now and that's important. That's not something a Chna upbringing would have led her, ADHD would have been a death-sentence.

One of the larger Canada-based Hong Konger YouTubers CanMen is promoting their video on their socials, the audacity to promote it with no regard for the anti-Indian racism.

This shot shows a cross at the top of the video frame, makes me wonder if Christians are associated with these folks.

Yes it's deserving of sympathy but this is not okay

Hong Kongers not realizing that they are in a humanitarian scheme, Canada has no obligation to approve you in particular when things in the country are bad for everyone else too. The entitlement here.

China and Chineseness: Lessons from the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan - Steve Tsang
China and Chineseness: Lessons from the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan - Steve Tsang YouTube video by Gresham College

Steve Tsang gave this talk a couple of months ago.

Mostly knew what he was talking about, learned a thing or two as well.

Chineseness being a construct... It's not something I think about a lot but an important talk nonetheless.

First bad sleep day in 2026. Anxious about career prospects related to social service sector in Toronto, among other things.

Haven't been posting on socials much but the world seems to be struggling along. Feeling a bit burned out to end 2025.

After the Scripture reading, the reverend who went to the stage immediately complemented the person who created the video and said, "that was a great song... "that was a great video."

This is just a case of Evangelicals using technology, but I really have second thoughts about this case.

25th Anniversary Service and Pastor Ordinations
25th Anniversary Service and Pastor Ordinations YouTube video by Crosspoint Church

When I was watching the video its original intended speed, I didn't notice so the distortions much. The video is intentionally sped up at points. At the end of the video the congregation is heard to be clapping. The video is followed by Scripture reading.

Original video of service here.

Another in between animation which goes from a photo of young children to older children, where the transition is of distorted the bodies of children being contorted and flying across the floor. You don't notice this at high speed so much but this is where the technology is right now.
