🚨🗞️ PRESS RELEASE 📰
We did it
Once the notice period has ended and the contract has been terminated, LAS Attorneys United may declare a strike, if necessary.
After discussion, the EB formally requested the BC send management notice of termination. The BC honored that request.
T-minus 10 days. ⏰
🧵3/3
Our Collective Bargaining Agreement has a provision that automatically extends the contract, and it requires either management or the union to provide 🔟 days notice of termination. 🧵2/2
🔔 ESCALATION ALERT 🚨 The LAS Attorneys United Executive Board and Bargaining Committee met jointly last night to discuss the formal termination of our contract. 🧵1/3
🚨 📢Historic news out of LAS Attorneys United 🚨📢
A union united will never be defeated.✊
A strong strike authorization vote demonstrates that our union is united and willing to go the distance to win our demands.
Reach out to your bargaining committee reps or union delegates if you have any questions. Let's do this!
🧵 3/3
LAS management has failed to make meaningful offers on our top demands, including salary, workload, telecommuting, and more. Time and time again, unions see that employers will ONLY move when they are faced with the pressure of an authorized strike. 🧵 2/3
It's official: LAS Attorneys United Strike Authorization Vote will take place next week. Voting opens at 11 AM on Monday, June 23 and closes Sunday, June 29 at 11:59 PM. 🧵 1/3
Today our Board voted unanimously to ask members to authorize a strike at The Legal Aid Society for the first time in over 30 years. On Monday, members will begin voting. Rudy Giuliani thought he could break us in 1994, but @uaw.org members will never be divided. Solidarity Forever.
New Yorkers: Rank Zohran #1 for Mayor.
Zohran fights for the working class, not the billionaire class.

June is the perfect month for a picket. Join us on Thursday 6/12 at 1pm at 199 Water St.
Opposing Andrew Cuomo is a non-negotiable for our membership. In light of today’s news that Jessica Ramos has endorsed Cuomo, our New York City CAP Council immediately voted to unendorse her on our ballots. @uawregion9a.bsky.social

27 days until our contract expires and Legal Aid management hasn't given one economic offer. Time to crank up the heat. June 12th at 1pm come support our informational picket. @uaw.org @uawregion9a.bsky.social
We are outraged to learn of a death in custody at Brooklyn central bookings on Friday. This human tragedy is not surprising. It is the product of political choices: the cowardly backsliding towards more incarceration and less due process. Our full statement: docs.google.com/document/d/1...
In 2025, we're going to make the D.R.E.A.M of electing a labor champion a reality. Proud as hell to stand with @uaw.org Region9A
Director Brandon Mancilla and fight to elect the Mayor we deserve. This June, Don’t Rank Eric (Adams) or Andrew (Cuomo) for Mayor.

Join us on Sunday February 2nd at 2pm in Foley Square as we kick off our historic sectoral bargaining campaign!!!
We remind LAS our contract fully guarantees the expression of personal religious, political, social, or economic beliefs of each and every one of our members at work. This union will always stand together in solidarity against injustice. An injury to one is an injury to all. /6
Discussions, reflections, and remembrances about past and present injustices are central to our daily work and these exchanges ensure we approach our practice of law zealously. /5
Every day our members are on the front lines advocating for our clients and New Yorkers, against mass incarceration, loss of housing, family separation, deportation, and other forms of state violence. Our fundamental work is to resist state violence on behalf of our clients. /4
The Society asserts that a whole range of topics from the release of political prisoners to past and present human rights violations do not relate to the “business” of The Legal Aid Society and that employees who email about them are “insubordinate”. This is unacceptable. /3
The Legal Aid Society Attorneys Chapter Executive Board denounces The Society banning emails discussing International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the genocide in Palestine, war in the Middle East, Black History Month, Trans Remembrance and World AIDS Day, and MLK Day. /2
For 56 years, our union has zealously defended clients from state violence. Our politics and our jobs are intertwined. We have fought hard to protect the free speech rights of our members. Now, those rights are under attack by our employer. 🧵/1
