It’s a horrific cruelty that such a promising therapy might not be developed because of ideology and politics. 🤬

Oh, man, this is tough. Is it possible to just offer something inoffensive to boost the blood sugar a bit? Even a wee snack? Sometimes just a nibble can make a difference.

Hugs to you both.

Face it:

1. Trump could sit at the Resolute Desk stark naked, a pair of dirty underpants on his head and pencils up his nose as he rocks backwards and forwards drooling and repeatedly saying "wibble" and no one would invoke the 25th Amendment.

2. He may already be doing this.

That’s an excellent breakdown, thanks for sharing it.

Oh, it’s pretty clear he does, on top of lifelong mental illness. I worked as a care home aide when I was in uni, dealt with a lot of dementia cases, there’s variation of type/stage. IANAD, but I’d say mid-stage, able to ramble and perseverate verbally, but losing emotional regulation and mobility.

I just find it a little precious and a lot privileged to be able to just bypass opportunities most writers and creative artists would kill for - even if it’s hard - because you’re having a moment. I guess she’ll be fine if she doesn’t, but don’t look for sympathy from the rest of us.

I quit acting for theatre because of crippling stage fright. Eventually, I left screen performance for writing and producing. I don’t like live audiences, but it’s a fact of life for promoting my work sometimes. Anyone who can eschew public appearances is blessed. Most of us aren’t.

Clearly connected to a festival, though.

While I sympathize with the aversion to public speaking, podcast and filming are not quite the same as giving a speech. More a conversation. Also, this is an aspect of the cultural industries. You have an audience, you have to connect with them.

Ridiculous cow.

She’s saying she’d need eight months clear, I’m counting less than a week - 10 days tops. And for $175,000 I might give them a couple of weeks.

OK, those requirements didn’t seem all that onerous to me. The filming would’ve been for a day, yes it’s a day out of your life, but it’s only a day. A podcast only takes a couple of hours. And when you win a prize from a festival, it’s very usual to go to the festival.

Thanks for sharing this - I’ve had a similar experience with late in life diagnosis. I’ve gone from “oh, so that’s what that was” to “why did people have to make things so difficult?” I understood there was a lack of compassion at work, but I think I’m processing the memory differently now.

Worse than that, layered on top of the stupid is mentally ill, old, sick, and complicated by mid-stage dementia.

Can’t help thinking that Trump might not be the only mad man in the room.

This strikes me as an incredibly stupid game to play.

The US will never invoke the 25th Amendment because it would be an admission that they were dumb enough to elect a crazy person. Their collective pride will not allow it. They would rather stubbornly ride his crazy log flume into fiery hell.

Well, to avoid the overbearing pessimism, I remind myself that they are smart, savvy, tough young women who are probably gonna be OK if there’s a way to be OK. And I sincerely hope they get a Berlin wall moment like we did.

I’ve got these darling daughters, so too much skin in the game to go full-on pessimist, but I gotta say it looks grim right now.

I just keep reminding myself of what it felt like to see the Berlin Wall fall…

100% this for any creative industries field.

I go to a lot of TV markets, and often they have panels with successful producers and filmmakers who will extol their own virtues. I always appreciate it when they acknowledge the lucky breaks that they got in addition to their ability, it’s actually better takeaway than “I’m special, you’re not.”

I've seen people trying to defend it today by saying "No, no, I just use it to brainstorm, bounce ideas, I do the actual writing" and with all the kindness in the world I need to tell you: if there is a stage of writing you are not good at, you need to get good, not use the plagiarism machine.

The problem is that it’s feasible that it’s not satire.
