The Zero Heroes
University president: we're here to help students speedrun through degrees without learning anything, because they just need the certificates.
Head of university's accrediting body: Huh, I've never heard of that. I might want to look into that at some point.

So many great clips from this. bsky.app/profile/acyn...
TIL there are ways to irreparably mess up the boil-and-fit mouthguards that I hadn't even imagined.
And writing "young females" continues to be a clear red flag.
I'm proud to announce that I have finally trained my Spotify DJ to play Romy, Taylor Swift, Alan Sparhawk, and Italian stoner rock on the same commute.
I agree with you that camera enforcement should be a major force for good! Stop sign and speed cameras have improved safety in locations near this.
But farming this out to private businesses definitely seems related to setting the fines and enforcement to maximize revenue rather than safety.
This is right past where the median ends because the street adds two turn lanes in its place. In most cases, high fines for passing stopped school buses and enforcing the rule on multi-lane roads without medians make sense, but the intent here is clearly to raise revenue and not to make kids safer.
The location mentioned has six lanes at the bus stop, and is near an intersection where drivers come through from multiple directions and focus on pedestrians and traffic in their direction rather than a bus on the other side.
I got a $250 ticket there, which is a crazy amount for a first offense.
I guess she was born in the 1900s so
I put one of her tracks on a playlist for my 12 year old, who pronounced it "old people music" 💀
I think a lot about the ninth grader who said to me in my last week of teaching at a high school that can only be described as a shitshow, "It's been real, hasn't it, Mr. Kimbrough?"
Similarly, this week has been real.
Happy Friday to those who ride the Metro red line!
When fully charged my car can go 250+ miles, but it's unpleasant to go much more than two hours without stopping so I tend to plan for that. With a decent charger, 15-20 minutes is sufficient before getting back on the road.
Now that my period of "free" Electrify America charging has ended, I'm considering other chargers along the way on trips.
My new favorite charging spot between DC and Pittsburgh is this park in Hancock, MD, with access to the C&O canal towpath which happens to lead directly to an ice cream parlor.
This Is Not Normal
I subjected my 12-year-old to @thecurrent.org on our road trip over the weekend and she pronounced it "old people music," which I guess bullied me into making her a playlist of new music for young people (much of it straight from The Current).
Who's going to photoshop the W hat onto you?
As I posted this while on the Metro to work this morning, I neglected to credit @citiesoflions.bsky.social for creating it. I haven't had anything pick up this much attention, so I didn't think much of it.
That was my fault. Credit to @citiesoflions.bsky.social where it's due!
Yeah, I checked and I don't have any flows in my retirement accounts.
So you're saying it won't affect my stocks?
Great graphic on the occasion of the the 50th birthday of the DC Metro
People who are still spending way too much time on Twitter
Obviously this won't be helped by private equity, but it's always annoyed me that the pun in its name doesn't quite work. They only make variations on bundt cakes, but the name makes it sound like they specifically avoid bundt cakes!
Excerpt from Washington Post article: "On his drive to the station, Grant passed tractors and irrigation ditches, yards that held more dirt and sage than they did lawn, and more than one pickup truck that looked exactly like his. He’d voted for Trump three times, but Grant didn’t consider himself easy to pin down. He supported the local sheriff, a Democrat, as well as the Republican mayor. And though Republicans spent hundreds of millions of dollars on anti-transgender messaging, he was raising a trans son without qualms. In fact, his kid was one reason he supported the war: He opposed the human rights violations committed by the Islamic regime against gay people and hoped the war would put new leaders in power. Trump’s ban on trans people in the military didn’t bother him even though it meant his son couldn’t join the National Guard, as Grant once had."
