BBS's were accessible to an extreme minority. A smart phone with social media apps on the other hand is a ubiquitous consumer device.

And you're unwilling to believe that giving kids an a smart phone, which captures images, videos, generate fake AI stuff, reach many more people and so much faster, has not madethat significantly worse?

They can AI generate the fishlips, look up your profile, and DM it to your Grandma now.

We got apps now where you can make bets on ***war***... It's not better.

They're awful as fuck *now*. Documentation has done nothing to stop it. But wow, 30-40 kids can be in a group chat focused on how some other particular kids suck and they hate them.

I'd *never* want to be a teen in a era of smart phones with social media apps. Like, fucking NEVER.

I dunno. I mean sure we were not all hanging at the library singing songs. But no one was looking at a phone while dining out with friends or sitting together.

Also, none of the kids had an internet connected pocket camera when other kids did embarrassing things, which was a huge plus.
