To keep the US from falling ever deeper into the fossil abyss, we need a working class climate agenda—putting workers in charge of a green transition that helps them right away. @cplusc.bsky.social is deeloiping the deets. stopgreedbuildgreen.climateandcommunity.org

Was great to chat with @meadwaj.bsky.social @macrodosepod.bsky.social about the energy transition, resource extraction, capitalism, global north-south inequality & Left strategy amid the polycrisis that accelerates daily. In collab with @alameda.institute. Listen podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/t...
Thanks! Its from Data for Progress, and can be seen in context on our website, via links I shared.

And policy agenda: stopgreedbuildgreen.climateandcommunity.org/posts/agenda
A working class climate agenda would connect climate politics to the kitchen-table issues that affect working people, and build a strong public sector. This approach is rooted in a framework called Green Economic Populism, which argues that effective policy interventions should be green, economic, and populist.
We need climate policies you can touch, and we need to build working class power. It's through workers' *economic gains* and organized power that we'll save our democracy, overthrow the oligarchy, and stabilize the planet.
💪 Rent control to cut costs and green social housing to make housing healthy, green, and available to everyone
💪 Affordable, union-built EVs & fast-and-free buses in towns and cities across the land
💪 Planning energy transitions to protect workers & speed renewables deployment
The working class needs a stable climate to thrive. And only the working class can actually BUILD the green economy we all need.
To stop green and build green, we're developing a working class climate agenda full of climate policy you can touch.

Nationally, polls show that the majority of voters want their elected officials to address the climate and cost of living crises together—and they believe it is possible
Centrists tell us we have to choose between economic populism and climate ambition. They're wrong. With *green economic populism* we can tackle climate and the cost-of-living crises together.
Today @cplusc.bsky.social is launching a new research and policy agenda to move us forward. 🧵
Headline: Soaring oil prices threaten Japan's municipal bus, sewer services
Ironic and tragic: while sewer socialism thrives in New York, Trump's war threatens bus and sewer service in Japan.

What a day! @triofrancos.bsky.social, @aldasky.bsky.social and @70sbachchan.bsky.social came to Wesleyan University and blew our minds. Watching people operate with that much rigor and generosity- is genuinely restorative. Makes you want to go back to the desk and do better work. Thank you!
France 🇫🇷 doubles electrification support to €10bn/year through 2030 — EVs, heat pumps, industry.
The reason?
The Strait of Hormuz crisis making fossil fuel dependence impossible to ignore.
Geopolitical shocks don’t just raise prices. They change what’s politically possible.

NEW: Report with @uawregion6.bsky.social and @bluegreenalliance.bsky.social shows how the California Grid Manufacturing Initiative can lower bills, bring green union jobs, and accelerate climate progress. This would deliver:
- 12k union jobs
- $200B cumulative savings by 2050
- rapid climate action
This @dechant.bsky.social story comes close to my point, but doesn't quite get there. Powering data centers from gas turbines can raise wholesale gas and electricity prices, but also retail gas prices if states let utilities spread tech companies' gas interconnection costs over all ratepayers.
If you are not reading these epic threads, why are you even on social media?
The carbon coin idea in his Ministry for the Future book
Precisely. KSR vibes
Ok, but where is the emergency wealth tax and redistribution, to ensure that working people don't bear the burden of energy austerity?
Mamdani nails it again. As @triofrancos.bsky.social & I argued in NYT, green economic populism means tackling the climate crisis & working people's cost of living at the same time. We need better transit, better EV infrastructure, better rideshare options. Many needs ➡️ many policies.
It's devastating to learn that Stephen Lewis has died. And I'm so glad he got to see his son Avi win the NDP leadership. Avi won on values that Stephen devoted to his life to. As a young man, I was lucky to see Stephen speak in public—he was a legendary, inspiring orator 💔

It's hard to overstate the magnitude of @avilewis.ca's landslide election as NDP leader. His campaign was laser-focused on Canadians' cost-of-living crisis—and called out the genocide in Gaza. Sound familiar? And he made the case for a muscular public sector—from public groceries to a GND. Exciting!
really good stuff here on climate rhetoric and housing policy from @aldasky.bsky.social climatecommunityinstitute.substack.com/p/what-does-...
Yesssssssss
Giant protests normalize becoming political with your friends. I was a baby gay who didn't know anything except my friends were all going out and I wanted to be with them in 2012. Now my political project is about race, class, gender, climate, and collective control of our energy infrastructure.
Last chance to back Canada’s brilliant and visionary left leader!!
