Today on Berina Doesn’t Know Her Own Language: I’ve been saying to men what I thought was, “I’m only interested in platonic friendship,” but it turns out what I’ve actually been saying is that I’m looking for a secret sex affair. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤣 Druzenje ≠ friendship

My 80 year old uncle who fought in multiple wars against fascists just went on a whole rant about how the US treats Black people. And I love him even more now for teaching me that elderly Bosniaks do get other struggles outside of their own.

Kaže mi sestrica da je “gužva” danas i moraću malo duže čekat… samo 3 osobe pred mene u redu i 12 minuta čekanja. I LOVE ANTI-CAPITALIST CULTURE.

Pettiness is the way.

Same. I’m of the school of thought that even if there’s some rational explanation here, it’s merely a blanket for other bullshit to come.

I insist on bringing you to my village one day so you can have it 🥰🥰

Something I didn’t realize I was missing in my life was EVEN MORE WOMEN. Nothing compares to this exchange of love and connection through language, tradition and compassion. Braiding each other’s hair, sharing stories from the past, teaching each other new skills/crafts, singing until it hurts, etc.

I’m curious too and will be trying to dig along with you. I’m hoping there’s an innocent explanation but I’m also consumed with worry because Prijedor is more triggering each time I pass through. STRONG stench of far-right extremism there.

A few followers said they saw a similar sign for a brief stretch of road between Konjic and Mostar but theirs was one sign and not a whole fiasco. No idea. Very weird. New experience. 2/2

Pretty sporadic. Some made sense - school zones, private neighborhoods, businesses, etc. But where it got suspicious was when I saw them on empty parts of the road that would otherwise just have nature and the occasional leftover UN vehicles. They stopped closer to B. Luka entrance. 1/2

I’m still trying to find an explanation. Nobody seems to know and google searches haven’t offered much info. Most countries don’t prevent public photography except to protect certain government info or to protect children in school zones. Other than that, nothing specific to RS/Bosnia.

Also just want to point out, because I pay very close attention, that the new freeway in RS looks pretty strategic military wise. I’m wondering if the ‘forbidden photo/video’ signs are related.

Can one of my Bosnian/Balkan friends help me understand the “no photography” signs all over the road between Prijedor and Banja Luka? What are they trying to hide (I mean besides the obvious history of the Genocide Entity)?

Also her tendency to say shit like “God forbid you find a husband who likes to travel. He’ll be miserable with you” obviously doesn’t help. As if I want a man in my life or would consider sitting in a moving vehicle of any kind with one.

I prefer solo travel for this reason. I cannot plan my clothes or even MOOD around other people’s desires. Maybe that makes me selfish. Idk. But I’m trying so hard to keep it together while traveling with my mom because we are not the same. Not even close.

The mental block which prevents me from planning for a future, including in the short term, stems from the fact that I was born into a genocide. I’m not gonna keep apologizing for my ADHD.

I can only imagine the bullshit women go through here. The men have been absolute chauvinists in every profession I’ve encountered. Pigs for no reason.

Had to get a physical to transfer my US driver’s license to a Bosnian one and HOLY SHIT what a traumatic experience. The doctor basically forced me to take off my shirt just to listen to my heart. As someone who has worked in the medical field for nearly a decade, I know that’s not necessary. WTF 🤬
