This article is a little late and doesn't really rise to the occasion - they didn't get a statement from anyone involved with the benches or NDOT. But more importantly, it misses the point of the benches.

E-bikes are very important accessibility tools and with the right education and outreach, we can make sure people are on safe bikes and using them safely. Blanket bans like this are over prescriptive and do way more harm than they do good.

I’ve had a chronic back injury since around 2014 and in 2019 it was bad enough that I thought I might not ever be able to ride again. Combined with PT, riding my wife’s cargo e-bike helped me redevelop the strength to ride and now I’m racing again.

There are at least a couple others of these throughout the state.

This area has a significant AAPI community and TDOT did no targeted outreach despite having guidance requiring them to do so.

We had a number of concerns with the basis for the project, impacts to recreational and cultural resources, and violations of TDOTs own public involvement guidance for minority communities and communities with limited english proficiency.

WNA submitted a comment during the last public comment period opposing the project as proposed. If I can figure out how to share it here, I will.
