Really, I worked and travelled extensively in your country. Canadians and Canada have been accepted as a curious peaceful culture, but outside of hockey, cold winter winds and now obnoxious summers fires and smoke, most Americans know virtually nothing really about who we are.

Ya it bugs me too. We need to require skill transfer be a main function of any federal monies seeded to foreign companies that operate in highly sensitive sectors of Canadian economy.

No, we rarely challenged, as we usually saw that if its's good for the goose it's good for the gander. It was usually a safe and comfortable position from which we could view the world.
We always responded to world events with and eye as to how that flushed with USA's position.
So when Canadians respond in anger and defence, do not misunderstand, we are pissed to the point that we now want, and need a reset.
Canada grew up comfortably in the shadow of USA. Lawmakers always pondered long and hard about geopolitical issues before openly challenging USA's position.
These voices have been subdued, or glossed over for years, but are now openly discussed as central to USA's foreign policy, and now colonial expansionist policies that conflicted in 1812 with our ancestors has been resurrected and openly discussed.
