ODNR has nominated ANOTHER 8,367 acres of Egypt Valley Wildlife Area for natural gas fracking.
It would industrialize 18,000 acres of habitat reclaimed from strip mining over last 30 years.

Is there a good podcast app that won’t take up a ton of space on my phone? Had been using Pocketcasts after deleting Spotify, but doing storage cleanup this week, realized it was using 13GB😬

Yes, a lot of construction jobs, and little else in most cases.
I saw the news story a fee weeks ago about a city council member’s home being shot at after he supported data center development. Is there significant development within the city limits in Indie?
Absolutely. There are a lot of urgent issues competing for people’s attention in urban areas, and many are more visible at the local level
right now, but we’re working on it!
Right, but I think that may not be enough votes for them to sacrifice the building trades’ support, if they think urban Dem voters support or don’t care about data centers.
Well, I hope more people will recognize that before it’s too late. Columbus City Council is preparing to develop local policy, so time is of the essence. If people see this and want to get involved:

I think more people in urban areas are going to have to be vocal about data centers before Dems start seeing it as an important campaign issue.
The thing is, it’s actually everyone’s problem, but right now it’s most visible to the people who live close to the areas being targeted for their development. We will all feel the impacts of water scarcity, the overburdened electrical grid, the loss of jobs to AI, etc.
I’ve yet to hear a single Ohio Democratic politician take a strong position against data centers. They recognize many of the problems with them and some are trying to address some of them at the state level, but no one is taking them on as a whole.
I don’t know if he’s really got a shot, but I agree that issue is where Ramaswamy is going to lose a lot of rural and suburban Republicans (the ones being impacted by data center development). Most people in Cbus have never heard of Putsch. I only know who he is because of data center organizing.
but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t take the threat of ecofascism seriously.
Ironically, Putsch’s videos are full of AI, which suggests he’s just latching onto an anti-tech position that plays well with his audience without really taking it seriously. Between that and being an outright nazi, he probably isn’t politically savvy enough to go very far…
If no one else will take a strong position on environmental justice issues, we can expect ecofascists to capture frontline communities.
I will not share his content, but most of Putsch’s talking points on data centers are spot on. They are not an economic boon, they support the surveillance state, they are a tremendous waste of resources, and they create a ton of pollution. Politicians who aren’t nazis should be saying these things.
but he is making inroads with rural communities directly impacted by environmental justice issues, most notably data centers. Both mainstream Republicans AND Democrats are failing communities on this issue.
Putsch is an ecofascist running against a technofascist. He makes overtly racist statements that more mainstream Republicans wouldn’t make (at least not in public)…

It can be done well. I lived in Oregon, where voting is entirely by mail (or dropbox, but your ballot still comes in the mail) for more than a decade and never had a problem. Oregon has significantly higher voter turnout than Ohio does.
Paywalled story in Bloomberg:
“Almost half of the US data centers planned for this year are expected to be delayed or canceled. One big reason is the shortage of electrical equipment, such as transformers, switchgear and batteries.”

Also, there is *still* a Columbus statue a couple blocks away from Columbus City Hall at the Ohio Statehouse. How many historical figures are honored with multiple statues in the downtown area of a city they never set foot in?
