The people who wrote the constitution also specifically said they were not infallible and could not account for all future conditions that they have no knowledge of. The nuclear age should have demanded a lot of revisions to the constitution to safeguard humanity against the original assumptions.

Our constitution was written in the 1700’s. It specifically talks about this situation, and specifically says that the system works because a tyrant would need a long runway to do this (men with muskets on sail boats), and that he could be reined in by the biannual elections. So much for that.
