Nooo, why couldn’t the 46th and Regal post have been the April Fool 😭

Watched a pickup roll coal on a Miata with the top down a couple days ago. Heartbreaking and infuriating.

Which alternative do you favor?

I’d be interested in testing a new road rule. If a car is a convertible with the top down, has no engine noise, hood height no taller than 2ft, and no sound distraction from stereo or earbuds, then they can proceed through a red light at 5mph.

Was stoked to see this in the Maps app as I rode to the airport this afternoon.

Shoot, being off Meta platforms apparently left me unaware Emry is a savage too! Thank you for sharing this delightful dunkfest.

I tend to agree that making the argument traffic will improve with anything short of congestion pricing is unwise. Better to be clear that traffic is an unsolvable problem, and the only viable response is to give people more space-efficient options to get around it (bikes, transit).

BONUS: Abundance in transportation California needs better public transit. But building new bus and rail lines is difficult and expensive here. A new report says to make things easier, the state needs to get out of its own way.

New Freeway Exit bonus episode just dropped. Me in conversation with @colinparent.bsky.social about his new report “Powerless Brokers: Why California can’t build transit.”

Have a listen!

I’m curious if there’s been any study of using the 163 for CHSR. Converting one side to rail tracks and the other to a park trail seems like a solid use of the land. Anything would be better than what’s there now…

Hell yeah! What neighborhood? Is it too late to make my impassioned pitch for Browne’s Addition??

Re-upping suggestion for overlapping bus lines serving OB (enhanced 923) and Liberty Station/Rosecrans. Overlapping service on Harbor would provide excellent frequencies between downtown and the airport. Add expedited walking routes to terminal and you could replace the 992.

+1 to this question. With 45k cars being removed, surely the next step is to reallocate the wasted space to add world-class bus and bike facilities. Right?? 🤨

I feel you. I’m in a similar boat with the 923. Getting between Ocean Beach and the airport takes 3x as long on the weekend or weekday evenings when the 923 isn’t operating.

Gotcha. Looking forward to watching it progress. Now we need to get something going on the two lots kitty-corner from CdA Park and City Line stop!

Good! Had me worried for a minute there. Interesting that Innovia bought and is developing the lot. Do you know if they plan for it to be low-income focused or something like that?

For the Browne’s project, does “four duplex units” mean four buildings with eight total units? Or four units in the form of two duplex structures?

Thank you for putting this all together!
The cost inflation on road projects is mind blowing 🤯

Depressing that an Idaho Stop refers to something completely sensible that benefits everyone while a California Stop is a careless thing drivers do that endangers everyone.

Checking against my personal list and I don’t see @pedestrianman.bsky.social on there.

I really struggle with the NSC. Not a fan of building new freeways, and that’s a lot of money that could go elsewhere, but I just don’t see how Division could ever be transformed into the beautiful boulevard that it ought to be without the NSC…

Hell yeah! I need to follow the public engagement process more closely. Been making a point of aligning family visits to San Diego with opportunities to engage on the Del Mar bluffs realignment. I’d be super game to visit LA to add my voice to Alt 4.

Do you have a preferred version among those being considered for the Sepulveda Line?

I’d love to see STA work on detailed road mapping with AV shuttles instead of the microtransit pilots. Neighborhoods like Minnehaha seem like a perfect case where AV shuttles could be more effective than traditional fixed-route buses.

Hadn’t heard about that one, but it looks pretty similar to the WeRide Robobus and Zoox vehicle. I think the Tesla Robovan concept is a bit bigger (20ish passengers), which could be ideal for some fixed-route contexts.

The key is that regulators and transit agencies need to be proactive about pushing toward more useful AV form-factors and applications.

…and they could open the door to closing off places like Golden Gate Park to personal vehicles. I see them as a potential substitute for streetcars/cablecars/furniculars in many contexts.

Waymo in its current state, yes. But I do think there are exciting opportunities for small bus / shuttle sized AV’s to serve as feeders for high-capacity transit in lower density residential areas, office parks, etc…

Bus operators in my city are unionized and the ones at the top of the experience scale will make around $80k before overtime* by the end of their contract.

Uber would prefer they lose pay, healthcare, and retirement, and drive their own depreciating equipment and beg every passenger for 5 stars.

Seeing a wildly different perspective on P3’s elsewhere in my feed, including in Denver. What’s the Denver project you had in mind?
