That led me to the chance to profile her for the new Trainer Magazine as well.
Thank you, Adrianne, for this look into your training experience and philosophies!

From the moment that she won her first race with her first starter, Shoot the Nickel, I've been following Adrianne DeVaux's time at the helm of her own stable and had the privilege of hanging with her during my trip to Saratoga last summer. (Article starts on page 21.)

It was great to sit down with Cherie and learn more about her career, her philosophies on training, and more. (Article starts on page 9.)
Thank you and good luck, Cherie!
For this year's Triple Crown issues of Trainer Magazine, Giles Anderson wanted to profile Cherie DeVaux, who has at least three great three-year-olds in her barn, including Golden Tempo, who is set to start in Derby 152 on May 2.

Though Bubbling Over's career essentially ended after his Derby triumph, he did go on to produce dual classic winner Burgoo King; Baby League, dam of Busher; and Hildene, dam of Hill Prince and First Landing. Read more about this Derby champion in the new issue!
@bloodhorse.com's April issue features a story on the 1926 Kentucky Derby by yours truly. Many thanks to Karen Johnson and Frank Angst for the chance to revisit Colonel E.R. Bradley's domination under the Twin Spires.
Another birthday today! Monday was Gallant Fox's, Tuesday was Omaha's, yesterday was Sunday Silence's, and now today is Assault's! Happy Birthday to the seventh Triple Crown winner!

That's right, folks. You read that correctly. William Woodward sent Omaha to England for his four-year-old season, where he learned to run on turf and in the opposite direction to attempt the 2 1/2-mile Ascot Gold Cup. There, he met a filly named Quashed
the third Triple Crown, for duplicating his sire's historic wins, and not only sealing his place in the sport's short list of immortals as a Triple Crown winner but also as the son of another Triple Crown winner. BUT that's not the only thing I want to celebrate Omaha for. He also came within
were not his forte: he would win only once at two, but did have his share of placings. So good was he as a juvenile that the legendary Damon Runyon predicted the colt would win the 1935 Kentucky Derby in an August 1934 column, nine months before the prized race.
We know Omaha best for winning

that's what this newest foal would be best at, his long stride complementing the marathon races that once dotted the stakes calendar.
Named Omaha, this newest Belair colt either earned his moniker for his beefiness -- trainer "Sunny Jim" Fitzsimmons would often knock down a barrier
Today, 94 years ago, a tall, lanky chestnut colt, one of the first of Gallant Fox's foals, came into the world at Claiborne Farm. His dam Flambino had been third in the 1927 Belmont Stakes. His sire had won the second Triple Crown and had made it clear that William Woodward bred for distance and

So, today, we remember the Fox, born nearly a century ago, and the glorious performances he gave us in 1930, when he became the second horse to win the Triple Crown.

so that other horses would get closer & then he would shift back into gear, as if he were playing with his competition. That wouldn't fly in those valuable 3-year-old stakes so William Woodward & Fitzsimmons recruited the one rider they knew could get the Fox to win and win well: Earl Sande.
The Fox was one of those horses that challenged even Hall of Fame trainer "Sunny Jim" Fitzsimmons because he figured out right away that he did not have to work that hard to win. In fact, he liked to toy with his competition, getting out in front just enough that he would then slow down
Today is a special day in the Kelly household, a birthday that leaves a smile on my heart every year. Today, 99 years ago, a bay colt by Sir Gallahad III out of the Celt mare Marguerite was born at @claibornefarm.bsky.social. His name? Gallant Fox.
Accomplished nonfiction writer seeks assurances abt writing fiction. You have to get lucky w/fiction & be in the right place at the right time. That kind of uncertainty has killed my creativity. I'm abt to turn 49. I want to indulge that part, but I can't get that uncertainty out of my head & heart.
It's Women's History Month & @twinspires.bsky.social wanted to recognize the women who have made a name for themselves in our biggest races. Starting w/Diane Crump in 1970 t/h Krone & Napravnik, women have been a part of these great races for more than 50 years.

I am going to use my birthday being later this month as a way to sell books, I hope. So shameless plug follows. You've been warned.
Anyhoo, I have two more of these book bundles left and I would LOVE to get these out of my house before my big day on March 30.
The Spring issue of Keeneland Magazine is out & I am excited to share my 1st article for them. Turn to page 90 to read my story abt the 4.5-furlong 'baby' races that Keeneland puts on every spring & horses who have used these as a springboard to success.

I can't think of a better way to celebrate Black History Month & Women's History Month than to share this story. Sylvia Bishop knew what she wanted to do: train racehorses. And she was not going to let others' opinions about race or gender stop her.

Riley won the 1890 Kentucky Derby, but his most memorable trip was perhaps not the one that sent him to the winner's circle at Churchill Downs.
