Spent the day out on a boat with water district officials checking out the health of seagrass at Fort De Soto Park.
Got to hold a spider crab, too!
You can hear more at @wusf.org tomorrow!
(Thx to Steve Newborn for the candids!)

Had a blast with Bay Blend host Sky Lebron last week as we witnessed the birth of a new Tampa mural...one that members of the community, including us, got a chance to help paint.
It'll be unveiled tonight at the alleyway art show! Deets in the link below.
I'll miss attending this year's festival (I'm shooting a friend's wedding tomorrow), but you should absolutely check it out. You'll learn a lot, and taste some really good jams and baked goods!
As the Internet and social media platforms become even more flooded with AI slop and misinformation, supporting local news outlets and journalists is more important than ever.
Thank you for all you do to support @localnewsday.bsky.social!

NEWS: You may have seen a lot of reporting in recent weeks about the American Medical Association allegedly pulling back from its support for gender-affirming care for trans kids.
It has not.

A federal judge has knocked down the core of President Trump's executive order barring federal funding for NPR and PBS, saying it violated the broadcasters' First Amendment rights on its face.
On Trans Day of Visibility I stand with my fellow trans and nbi journalists and friends. No amount of being called an “it,” “creature,” “groomer,” or “pedophile” every time I’m on camera for work will deter me from doing good journalism as I am.
The NYT is being disingenuous here. The AMA has *always* said that gender-affirming surgeries should generally be reserved for adults. That's part of why so few kids get them!
The AMA reiterated this position and the NYT is characterizing it as a policy change. It's not.

Nature is healing.
Still looking for Tampa Bay area folks willing to share their struggles with this!
I woke up around 1 a.m. this morning to type notes for what I want to say to Brent Spiner tomorrow in case anyone is wondering what I'm overthinking today.
In January, @wusf.org's Steve Newborn and I took you to the The Florida Aquarium's Apollo Beach facility where corals were bred and birthed in an effort to restore reefs.
Today, we take you to the next leg of their journey: a nearby nursery where they'll get ready to be returned to the sea.
A friend of my spouse asked if I'd ever considered changing my pronouns to Day/Dem and now I'm a bit upset I didn't think of that first LOL.
It's not too often I hear original jokes about my first name, but that's probably the best one yet.
This posted yesterday, but I spent Saturday in Ybor City with the People's Pride Coalition for their first standalone march.
Mentally competent patients typically have the right to choose their medical care — or refuse it. But there is one notable exception: pregnant patients. That inconsistency is particularly striking in Florida. Read this story by @amyyurkanin.bsky.social 👇
I'm talking to dentists and FOIAing public records, but I'd really love to chat with patients!
If you're in the Tampa Bay region with a Medicaid dental plan, especially if you've had issues finding a provider, lets chat!
My latest for @wusf.org takes you to West Pasco County, where one educator has expanded on the benefits of a homeschool co-op to provide neurodiverse students with two and four-day schooling options.
Come with me as learn about bees, take a nature walk, work in the garden, bake muffins and more!
This is not new news to those of us who are part of the LGBTQ+ community, but it may be insightful for some folks.
My latest for @wusf.org.
I had so much fun going out with Gabby on this story. Click through for my photos, and her fabulous interview. And if you think the interview is funny, wait until my reel posts Sunday!
Gabby goes full on weed-eating DoorDash reviewer!
My nephew, with total exasperation: “He keeps using magikarp! This is his THIRD magikarp! If this next one is a magikarp, I’m going to crash out.”
30 seconds later: “IT’S ANOTHER DANG MAGIKARP!”
My nephew is playing Shining Pearl (his first Pokémon RPG) and called me to talk while he plays so he can get advice about changing out moves as his team levels up 🥹🥹🥹
This is huge. My job required me to file for FMLA for the six weeks I was out to donate my kidney. When I came back, I found out I was never covered in the first place. Even though I had the PTO, they could have legally fired me.
I can also be denied life, disability and LTC insurance.
*screaming internally*
NEW: Guards have taken away crayons, colored pencils & paper during recent room searches at Dilley, according to detainees and others. After one inspection, the children just “cried and cried and cried,” a mother said. The facility denies the claims.

Last night, I dreamed I met Lee Pace in a dimly lit pharmacy close to midnight and the only thing I had to say to him was that every single person in "Halt and Catch Fire" is deeply unlikable, especially his character 😂
It was a grueling recovery for both of us, but she's happy and healthy and thriving now.
If I could regrow kidneys, I'd keep donating them.
If you ever have any questions about the living donation process, don't hesitate to DM me here or on Signal DaylinaMiller.13.
More than 100,000 people are on on the national transplant waiting list.
13 people die each day waiting for an organ transplant.
My sister was told she'd likely die, too, before she got hers. Living donation was the only option.
I spent months being vetted physically and psychologically.

This month has been a blur so far, so I completely missed the 8th anniversary of me donating a kidney to my stepsister.
I keep sharing my story in the hopes that it'll inspire others to become living donors, too.
Donation after death is wonderful and you should definitely sign up.
But.
