I 100% agree with this; I think the least interesting thing about weapons is how much damage they do.
Utility and coolness is so much more fun.
While I have other quibbles with it, Sanguine's first Usagi Yojimbo RPG has GREAT weapon mechanisms: every weapon's damage is "will likely kill you."
I think that most situations that take away player agency should be avoided.
And when players are putting themselves into a situation where their agency might be in jeopardy, you should tell them it's about to happen, so they can reconsider if they want.
It's pretty easy.
Ok, this is not difficult.
The key, to me, for being a good game host, is to give your players lots of hard choices, with meaningful consequences. Things they've got to think about.

I used to have luck with trying to get the pads of my index fingers as close together as possible without touching for as long as I could stand it, but even that doesn't work for me anymore.
I have big lungs and my hiccups are terrible
