The physicist explained that it was because he didn't have a proper 4D toaster yet, and had to use a 3D one instead. The structures along the 4th spatial axis couldn't be properly baked, so he told me to just make do and not be too picky.

Just had a weird dream: a physicist invited me to eat some 4D toast. Every bite I took of the charred outer crust would cause a chunk of 3D white bread to ooze out from inside. From the way the light reflected, the normals seemed to be inverted.
