My morning highlight was witnessing two pileated woodpeckers having breakfast as I walked up Alex Taylor Hill.

Watched all the cars zip past, missing this simple joy.

Reaffirmed the importance of being multi modal. You miss a lot when you're in a metal box.

Text on image: there is no good rationale to charge people for a vaccination booster that is a universal benefit to the individual and the whole population. A vaccinated person reduces their risk of severe illness, and lowers the risk of infection to others. The procedural hoops to book a shot and the price tag are also huge issues to proper accessibility and ultimately to medical safety.

There is no good reason to put a price tag on a vaccine booster when the rest of the country is not following suit. Albertans are already dealing with increased public health issues as we live in the Measles capital of Canada and people will face forced drug treatment, harming their bodily autonomy.

Alas, whilst the elevator functioned, at 8:50 am the funicular came down halfway, got shy, fled back to the top. A city worker is on scene assessing the situation.

I might have to do an essay called “The Straight Washing of Spock,” because people really don’t seem to understand the history of Kirk/Spock or its importance to sci-fi fandom. Roddenberry deliberately refused to define their sexuality, and Joanna Russ even argued that not knowing was the point—that in a better future, it wouldn’t matter. Making Spock explicitly straight in Strange New Worlds flattens all of that history.
