I also just can't wait to roll an outdoor bowl...

What's actually super exciting is that because our season only starts this Saturday everything released so far in this latest campaign push is all just recycled/cleverly adapted old footage

From Saturday onwards there can actually be brand new footage and brand new things

I do find the biggest challenge is the confidence even those who play it have in it.

When I started playing and I said "This deserves more coverage" literally a bunch of people were like "Not gonna happen, nobody cares". Then I proved them wrong ๐Ÿ˜

Just gotta keep doing it, on and off the green

I know I can't do it alone, it takes everyone, and other people to help me. I'm not arrogant.

But I also have to say these things in order to push myself to do it cos I don't want you saying to me in 10 years time "What went wrong?" lol

Thread of highlights reel of sorts of a campaign I'm running to try to get more people into my bowling club to play #lawnbowls in #edinburgh this year

People might like it and have a new favourite hobby, or they might not and then at least they gave it a go

But, aye, idk, maybe one day you'd like to come to Northern to have a little bounce match with me, or I could go to Dudley to have a bounce match with you, and maybe we could make content out of it but also maybe it could just be for fun/socials/bowls connections

I just checked, and thankfully Oakland Bowling Club in California is one of the ones that my club, Northern, was already following on socials, ha.

I had no idea there was that Edinburgh connection though.

It's super cool and I'll be paying more attention to them now

I can't believe I never responded to this at the time

Not had the pleasure of playing at Dudley yet, but I went to watch our seniors play a game there last season in the senior top 10. Nice wee club, and near where I grew up.

That's amazing to hear about your journey & maybe we can play sometime?

I first started bowling ~20 years ago at the Oakland Bowling Club in California. At the time we were in our 20s and the few other playing members were in their 70s. Moved to Edinburgh in '24 and joined the Dudley BC, it's been great, but it looks like new membership is a challenge across the board

It's really just a case of "How do you get people to actually try it for that first time" and the answer isn't as simple as "destroy videogames" or whatever, like how some people say it is in relation to youth/general people not trying sports

Basically, nobody with a proper social media past history has been in the world of bowls yet. Like, idk. I just hope some of the outreach I've done lately does end up paying off, because literally all bowls needs is just a few influential people to do it and think it's cool and promote it a little..

Little thing I made for another platform but never did publish cos thought it might be a bit on the nose lol.

Secret exclusive just for you I guess

Like, imagine being a bowling club in the centre of the city that has the biggest arts festival in the world...

So much potential

Anyway, I hope people actually turn up to our Try Bowls day this Sunday. We had 16 last year, be interesting to see if TikTok success leads to more or not

I'm hoping maybe some of the TikTok and other social success we've had lately can maybe lead to some success with some other outreach stuff I've done lately that can hopefully help all of bowls

You're amazing & have been so inspirational & if I win the lottery we'll definitely be going to Wales

With there having been that problem of there not being enough "younger" people taking it up, I've noticed that a lot of clubs accounts are clearly run by somone 60+ who doesn't understand social media.

Or it's a youngster with no actual skills or experience who just generates lots of AI things.

I'm sad to hear that

And some people might think "30 was alot, and even 17 is a bunch" but once the green spaces are gone and built on then there's no bringing them back.

Also because everything works in cycles, I do believe bowls is due a resurgence...

Just need to stay alive in the meantime

Just imagine, hiring the person who was almost you. It's like some sort of sado-masochism.

But that can ultimately only be achieved by the brave!

Let's see how brave people are!

Or are you?

Let's all now consider this an experiment

But nah, experiments aside, tbh, the things you've done are the same things I'd have done. So you're all good.

Doesn't stop this from being an experiment on reactions though ๐Ÿ˜…

Hey @scottishcurling.bsky.social, you're doing grand btw. Honestly ๐Ÿ‘

You're literally here!

If you run a small or niche business I can definitely help you for a bit of cash

Everything I've acheived so far is based on passion. So just imagine if I was actually paid.

I'll find the meme for your niche

I just realised how much this also applies to my "past life" if you all know what past life I mean
