I just don’t understand it. If we’re arguing that the committee’s choices are Hall-worthy, then what’s really the issue? To me, it’s more of an indictment of the nominating committee by the Rock Hall (“Sometimes are members do dumb shit, so let’s have some safety rails to prevent a bad inductee”)

If Nom Com is allowed to open the gates to however many hopefuls each year (which means the Hall has already consented to the possibility of induction for each of those names), then what’s the harm of those with a ballot voting for whatever reasons they please + fan voters choosing one inductee?

Why isn’t it just a 1st place in the fan vote gets inducted no matter what? And why are actual voters seeing a screen explaining that they should take voting real seriously? It’s like the Hall doesn’t trust its own nominating commitee.
