5️⃣ 📈 One in six children has experienced cyberbullying. Around one in eight adolescents admits to having engaged in it themselves.
🇪🇺 These are not just statistics. They show how deeply this problem has been underestimated, and how we are only now beginning to address it in Europe.
4️⃣ 📲 However, these same platforms use algorithms that disrupt attention and can harm adolescents’ mental health, and for a long time they have not been willing to address this voluntarily.
3️⃣‼️ As @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu said, the principle is simple: as in a shop can ask for ID when selling alcohol, a platform can verify age before showing potentially harmful content.
Digital platforms cannot raise children — that is the role of parents.
2️⃣ 👉 This did not come out of nowhere. The Digital Services Act (DSA) places a clear obligation on platforms to protect children online — legislation I worked on for many years during my time as Commissioner.
Today’s step is the technical implementation of that obligation.

🇪🇺 To nejsou jen čísla. Ukazují, jak hluboce je tento problém podceněn. A jak ho v Evropě teprve začínáme řešit.
4️⃣📲 Tyto platformy ale zároveň využívají algoritmy, které narušují pozornost a mohou škodit duševnímu zdraví dospívajících, a dlouho nebyly ochotné to měnit dobrovolně.
3️⃣ ‼️ Jak řekla @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu: Stejně jako jsou mladí lidé žádáni o ověření věku při nákupu alkoholu, stejný princip bude platit i online. Digitální platformy nemohou vychovávat děti — to je úloha rodičů.
2️⃣ 👉 Tohle nevzniklo z ničeho. Nařízení o digitálních službách (DSA) ukládá platformám povinnost chránit děti online — a na této legislativě jsem během svého působení jako komisařka řadu let pracovala. Dnešní krok je technickým naplněním této povinnosti.
