More amendments from the governor to weaken the great work the General Assembly did to protect our communities and neighbors
Was literally coming to post the same
I’ve been saying for months that HB1441 didn’t do enough to restrict ICE transfers. And there are local politics at play for why Lopez isn’t making a stink about it. But I don’t think pointing out two specific bills she amended is a dishonest response to your point premised on one bill she signed.
She removed a restriction on ICE transfers (from adults with violent offenses to all adults); and instead of an absolute prohibition on teaching Jan 6 was peaceful protest, asks the Board of Ed to decide whether to teach about it at all.
What is dishonest about how I phrased it?
(Not to mention her continued efforts to stab labor in the back, despite SEIU/labor orgs campaigning for her)
Counterpoint: Spanberger just yesterday sent legislation back to the General Assembly with proposed amendments that would expressly allow jails/prisons to send adults to ICE on nothing more than administrative detainers. And similarly watered down law about how to teach re Jan 6 in schools. So…
Been seeing opposition bubble up from local NIMBYs who claim to be left wing but if your whole deal is just opposing any change in your neighborhood then guess what you're a conservative
