I've studied so many concentration camps through history that held vulnerable people in just this kind of crowded squalor. You demonize people, you demand more arrests, this is what you get. It already has its own budget and its own momentum, and is on track to go much further, unless we stop it.

"She described the way people were laying down inside as “like sardines.”
“'It is frightening in there,' she said. 'It is disgusting'..."

It feels like 2017 all over again. Every day I learn the name of a child who suffered horrific abuse who has been fighting for justice for years, and her abusers name is being protected by the government.

Breaking news: The National Park Service took down an exhibit on slavery where George Washington lived as president in Philadelphia. The informational panels discussed Washington’s ownership of enslaved people, as well as the broader history of slavery.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

I’m seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports.

Because that’s how you protect everyone, regardless of immigration status.

They can protect your health and the health of those around you.
Many people also find them much more comfortable than surgical masks.
If you can’t afford them, look for your local mask bloc.
If you can afford them, please donate!
if this continues, you're going to wake up with no trans journalists because you've chased them all off.

Thanks to the @thetyee.ca and @crof.bsky.social for this piece. I've been off work due to long COVID for a year this January, and it's heartening to see the realities of the ongoing pandemic reflected in local media. thetyee.ca/Analysis/202...
