I'm starting with the section on Marxist feminism—the focus is on the 1920s work of Berta Lask and the criticism of Eleanor Marx.
Lask was, arguably, the first Marxist feminist playwright and Marx the first Marxist feminist theatre critic. Both are as extraordinary as they are under-appreciated.

making it essential reading for students and scholars interested in how capitalism has shaped the modern stage—and how theatre, in turn, has fought back.
to urgent contemporary issues, from racism and gender oppression to decolonization and the climate crisis. Theatre and Marxism offers an accessible yet rigorous introduction to one of modern history’s most influential intellectual traditions
arguing that Marxism remains a vital framework for understanding theatre’s evolving role in society. Inspired by the recent resurgence of Marxist thought and anti-capitalist movements worldwide, this book demonstrates Marxism’s continued relevance
Through close readings of works by artists influenced by Marxism, including Bertolt Brecht, Sylvia Wynter, and Ghassan Kanafani, Boyle traces a global history of theatre as a crucible for Marxist critique and revolutionary struggle
Theatre and Marxism places theatre at the core of Karl Marx’s critique of political economy, presenting performance as a dynamic site where Marxist ideas have been staged, tested, and transformed since the nineteenth century.
From the publisher's description: This book explores Marxism’s enduring relationship to theatre, examining how theatre has both shaped and been shaped by Marxist thought.

Poster for Quorum with the Queen Mary University of London logo and a teal and white marble accent bar on the right hand side of the page. It reads: "Shane Boyle, Marxism and Theatre Ecology: The Metabolic Performances of Otobong Nkanga and Zina Saro-Wiwa. This talk looks to demonstrate the usefulness of Marxist ecological thought for performance studies by examining several recent works by Otobong Nkanga and Zina Saro-Wiwa that engage with the colonial histories of resource extraction in West and Southwest Africa. These performances—staged atop abandoned mines and oil pipelines—give aesthetic form to what Marx called the “metabolic rift” between humanity and nature. 26 March, 6PM, Rehearsal Room 2, ArtsOne, Mile End Rd, E1 4PA, London."
