I'll say it again: All music-on-hold loops should have a "wait in silence" option.

I like to stay informed so I really should be watching the address to congress. But I just can’t take watching that treasonous baboon.

What's a word you can't type no matter how many times you have tried? For me, it's "platform." I've been writing about technology for 30 years and it still comes out "platofrm" every single time.

This earthquake alert actually popped up 30 seconds before I felt the shaking start. Granted, the shaking I felt here, 200 miles from Humboldt, was very minor, but still... this kind of early alert was just a pipe dream when I was a kid. I hope everyone up in Humboldt is ok.

Twitter’s heir apparent isn’t X or Threads — it’s Bluesky The blue bird is dead. Long live the blue sky.

I have been looking for a new community to replace Twitter. For a while I thought it'd be Threads, but I don't want to entrust my online persona to yet another smarmy billionaire. I'm glad BlueSky is getting traction. Hope we can make it work. I miss having 40,000 followers though.

Tech Etiquette: The Real Reason You Need to be Polite to Alexa Do you need to say “please” and “thank you” to a voice-bot like Alexa, Siri, or Google Home?

When I wrote my "Do you have to be polite to AIs?" story back in 2017, I didn't make the connection to Pascal's Wager. I wish I had. @stevenlevy.bsky.social got it. We should call it Levy's Wager.
