If I recall right a lot of the libertarian stuff in the books was because her daughter Rose was a huge libertarian and edited them to align with her politics. There's a really interesting biography of both of them called "Prairie Fires" that goes into this a lot

Comic Strip. Description of the scene; "The Ironhand Gnomes Hideout - Rivington." Off screen someone shouts; "Barcus!". The gnome looks to the viewer. He says "Wha-?". Tav suddenly appears, tucking her head into the gnomes shoulder with a 'PMF' sound effect. He looks startled. "Tav?? There are very flammable items in here you know-!". Tav is overjoyed, flush against the gnomes chest as she looks up into the camera. Happy tears in her eyes as she says; "GODS I'm happy to see you, it feels so nice to not have to look up for once, be around folks my own size. hehe." Next panel Tav is standing, measuring their slight height difference with a hand swishing back and forth the tops of their heads. Tav says; "Although I guess I still have to look up at you... Where in the hells did you get these handful of centimeters from?". Barcus looks surprised by her actions, flushing.

Astarion stands behind Tav and Barcus, he looks at them with slight embarrassed disgust. He speaks at Tav; "My love, I know he's a good friend but do try to not hold on to him for too long, yes? The smell.. in ..here (he emphasizes) is by all accounts offensive." Tav and Barcus are still close together as she looks over her shoulder, deadpanning at her lovers words. She is not impressed by his attempt to not be insulting to Barcus. "Wooow great save, love." Under his breath, Astarion continues; "Sigh, don't be like that- I really am talking about the soot... and the gnome smell that goes with it." Barcus watches the interaction in silent confusion. He thinks; "The Vampire? Not the Druid?"

"Consider instead the opportunity to enjoy the spring Tav and I found to wash the days smells away, Astarion." Halsin stands next to him, hand raised in good faith persuasion. Astarion looks down at the ground in mild thought, smirking in good humor. "Hmm.. Fair point." Astarion says. "You're more than welcome to join us next if you so choose." Halsin continues to say. Astarion responds; "... Perhaps." A shitty redraw of Barcus's in game portrait model shows him in disbelief with the text "BOTH?" inside the box. In the final panel, Barcus looks at Tav with...pity? Disbelief? Mild worry for her life choices? He asks; "Tav.. Truthfully; Do you ever get a full nights rest." Tav looks uncomfortable but may know what he's really asking while she rubs the back of neck and says; "Huh??" In the Background, there are two smaller doodles. Astarion is looking at his nails, smug, with music notes around him. Halsin looks to be shaking with laughter. They are both turned away from Tav and Barcus.

This is a comic I made while in a playthrough with a focus on Romancing Astarion❤️🦇 and Halsin ❤️🐻. Barcus is my favorite character to interact with as my Tav, and I wish to draw more character interactions between them!

Ramazith's Tower. A masterful mess of red and gold fabrics, ornately carved woods. Floor to high, high ceiling windows offering superlative views over the city - Upper and Lower. These days it was Rolan's tower, and at night - when Astarion visited - those same apertures were speckled with stars and city lights. The wizard was making the place very his - a fire blazing in the over-sized hearth while he swanned around in a sultry, silky little dressing gown. Draped off the shoulders and open to cross-marked abs, a large glass of something deep amber and expensive in his hands. "Do Cal and Lia know that you're such a little slut when they're not around?" Astarion asked. The sway of Rolan's hips and the godsdamned tail slit were much too much to leave unremarked. "What a wizard does in his tower is nobody's business but his own," Rolan boasted, but he smiled. "Besides, it doesn't matter much what they think when I know that you love it…"
