Cautiously optimistic but extremely superstitious about something that may happen in the future, and I'm afraid that if I speak of it it will end up not happening

Today marks one year since Trump’s inauguration and I can finally announce the completion of my own personal project 2025 that I started this time last year: bench 225 within a year. Thank you to the current administration for providing gym motivation

Went on a date yday w someone who told blatant lies. “I bench pressed 230 for reps within 6 months of lifting, then I quit and lost all the muscle”. No you didn’t. You are a 140lbs woman, why do you even bother to lie about something so obviously untrue. Very confusing behaviour

climbed before lifting today and my left elbow tweaked so hard during the warmup that I couldn't do any working sets of bench press

it was a basic algebra mistake though (1/(u + sqrt(u)) = 1/u + 1/sqrt(u)) so I understand where my friend was coming from

I'm usually very open and tolerant of new ideas but some of the stuff people are doing these days turns me extremely conservative. What the fuck do you mean that instead of a commutative ring I should be working with condensed animated rings

I'm much more content to vibes my way through stuff where I don't really know the foundations these days. Do I know the technical theory of formal algebraic stacks? No. Can I draw you one? Yeah easily

modular in the sense of modular form/curve and moduli as in moduli space, plural of modulus, were named completely independently, it's a really happy coincidence that modular curves are also moduli spaces

there are so many moving parts in modularity lifting proofs and each of them is so cool and fun to learn on its own (except for maybe the Tate duality bits)

the gym was used to be very boring until one day it suddenly switched and now I'm beaming every time I get to go in and lift heavy

Honestly materialism is great so long as you don't get trapped into chasing status goods. Basically every material comfort I want (hot shower, climbing, good fruit, traipsing around to a cute coffee shop, reading maths) is extremely affordable on a grad student stipend
