I'm all for a conscious uncoupling. Back to the Edwardian mangle.
Started the day with a smoking washing machine so now I'm gonna have this in my head for the forseeable

Been very much struggling with the feeling of writing into the void recently, this was fascinating and a bit of a balm in a way
The new edition of my column on radical new traditional folk music is out now on @thequietus.com!
Ft. sentient American lap steels, Finnish wax cylinder ghosts, Korean techno-meets-ceremonial and plenty more!
Do you think we could do a psyop with my folk column perhaps and get everyone into half hour lap steel experiments
Henry Birdsey, photo by James Gillespie.
From lap steels gaining sentience to a rethinking of the folk compilation, via wax cylinder kantele ghosts, the return of a dub-folk favourite and a confluence of ancient ceremonial song and left-field techno...

This Guttersnipe interview by @nataliesnotinit.bsky.social is very excellent
just seen a priest having a driving lesson
Today I have derailed my day by obsessing over one interview two years ago where I accidentally implied a band's success was purely down to luck (which I didn't even think) - leading to Vostok levels of frostiness for the next forty minutes.
I've just heard their forthcoming album and it's 10/10

a silver coin showing a crudely carved monarch’s face
And here is how it might once have looked
Some rocks and mud on the Thames foreshore with a coin sticking out of the mud on its side
I found it the other week in Wapping, then dropped and lost it, it survived 30 tides lodged in the mud until it was finally relocated. Here is how it was found today
A worn silver coin with the initials ‘HB’ stamped on it
This is a silver groat from the reign of Charles II (possibly James II, the face has worn away) that was repurposed by in the C18th as either a pub “slap” token or a ‘love token’ - the initials either refer to a pub or a romantic interest
Fratti / Orcutt collab is the stuff of dreams and IT'S ALL THANKS TO US (I am of course being facetious)
The occasional tQ Baker's Dozen mention -> actual collaboration pipeline always warms the soul
Revisiting @gazelletwin.bsky.social's Pastoral today for research and have concluded that it goes harder than any other album ever (I will not expand)

Absolutely fascinating reading - perhaps the very first literary reference to Morris dancing from a 1582 Puritan booklet “Agaynst light, lewde and lascivious dancing”
Complaining about “abhominable sinnes” ensuing from men dressed as women, and the “entisement unto naughtiness” of dancing nude
Riding high at 87 in the Quietus albums of the year chart
Outstanding
Reading this very old book and it’s hard not to give the author a lisp
Arcade Fire, after the singles from The Suburbs but before the album
Banger
Incredible 1910s kantele wax cylinder recordings here, for all of a 1910s kantele wax cylinder recordings persuasion
