@frontex.bsky.social, are you serious? Your aircraft saw a boat in distress but instead of informing ships for rescue, it only informed planes. Our air-crew reacted, flew to the scene & did what Frontex should've: inform ships. @resqship_int brought all survivors to Lampedusa this morning✊

Arms companies sell drones for border surveillance, small and large companies make money from border control systems, IT giants develop risk analyses for migration defence, and state and private institutes conduct research into improving these systems with artificial intelligence and other technologies.

Some of these companies and institutions are based in Berlin, others have set up a branch in the capital or even just put up a letterbox. They either work directly with EU authorities such as Frontex, Europol or eu-LISA or are involved in large, EU-funded projects.

With a bike tour, we want to un- cover some of these profiteers of the EU border regime in the city center and explain what role they play in the violent border regime.

Frontex is the European Union’s border police and is responsible for systematic human rights violations through its operations, involvement in deportations and the strengthening of EU borders. Companies and institutions profit from this.

New report: The EU paid universities more than €100 million to build Europe’s border regime

Universities provide research, analysis, data and technology for border and migration control - and lend an illusion of scientific legitimacy to ethically questionable policies.

Border Labs How Universities Power Europe’s Border Regime – Abolish Frontex European Campaign 25 March 2026 – In recent years universities all over Europe have faced criticism and protest actions in response to their ties to the fossil fuel industry and to Israel’s genocidal war machine. These protests have highlighted the extent to which universities are deeply entrenched in violent and repressive systems, providing research, data and advise to keep them running, refine and expand them. The need to secure external funding is often one of the drivers to participate in such work in the first place, especially in times where many governments impose significant cuts to higher education and research budgets. The new report ‘Border Labs How Universities Power Europe’s Border Regime’ by the Transnational Institute (TNI) and Stop Wapenhandel shows that universities are similarly deeply involved in Europe’s repressive border and migration policies in multiple ways. They receive research and innovation funding from the EU’s Framework Programmes and a range of other EU instruments; strengthen their ties with border authorities, including Frontex, and with the military and security industry; contribute to the EU’s border externalisation efforts; and sometimes seek to commercialise academic work through the market. Many people within universities produce fundamental and critical research that could pave the way for political change away from the EU’s untenable, violent and escalating border and migration policies. Students and faculty therefore have an important role in pushing universities to take action against their involvement in the border-industrial-academic complex that continuously expands and raises the walls of Fortress Europe. Read the key points and report on the website of TNI.

In our latest blog post, co-published with @statewatch.bsky.social, Luca Rondi exposes the 'blackmail' at the centre of @frontex.bsky.social's push for 'voluntary' deportations from Europe.

The piece was originally written in Italian for Altreconomia.

From cooperation to complicity: meet the companies powering the EU’s war on migrants – Abolish Frontex European Campaign 11 March 2026 – Even as  people continue to die at Europe’s borders , little is known about the private sector’s role in implementing increasingly  draconian EU migration policies . In fact, when it comes to migration, the  cosy relationship between private companies and EU institutions is purposefully kept far from public view, escaping scrutiny  and transparency. As  our new research shows , the truth is that such companies are getting more than their fair share of face time with EU policymakers, via pitch events that create exclusive opportunities to influence public spending and policymaking on migration topics. Frontex is also responsible for the countless mass deportations in Europe as a main coordinator and financial contributor. They are responsible for creating systems which drive people into desparation and suicide in detention centres.

The struggle against police and prisons must always include the struggle against border violence and patrol.

What does the situation in Minneapolis reveal of our own migration policies here in Europe? Above all: why isn’t it being connected to Frontex?

The Fortress Europe of today is built off decades of colonial plunder and oppression and the ongoing war against people on the move. Come to our event 🤝

In the workshop we want to share knowledge about the key role that Frontex, the EU border agency, plays in the Fortress Europe’s border regime, shed light on it violent practices and ways in which it puts people on the move at risk.

We also want to touch on topics of militarization of borders and connecting it to anti-militarist resistance.

The mandate and resources of Frontex are steadily increasing. These increases are granted and funded by EU member states, which include plans to open new training centres and expand their operations.

We want to think together of ways in which we can organize against this and work towards dismantling the EU’s border regime.
