It rarely gets beyond the 2nd OT, but the record is I think 6?

playoff games can also in theory last indefinitely. if there's a tie after 60 minutes they just play another 20 minutes of sudden death overtime (after a standard intermission). If no one scores, they play another 20. And another 20.
Money (each team gets at least 2 home games per round they make it to) and also I guess an attempt to account for the level of 'randomness' in hockey in order to be sure they get the right winner. The better coaches can adjust their strategy through a playoff series to fit their opponent
This one is coming via 'evri'. Who used to be called 'Hermes' and somehow thought that changing their name would make everyone forget how awful they were...
I mean, they are the very very worst of our courier companies here in the UK but I think they do still technically work full weeks (their support people keep claiming they are looking into it and it should be delivered 'today' but they've said that for 3 days now...)
I had a delivery I was expecting Tues evening; I then got a notification 30 mins before the end of the slot that they couldn't deliver and would try again the next working day. I then got an email saying my expected delivery date was this COMING Tuesday. In what world is that next working day???
*talking to teenage militant atheist self*
current me: okay so there’s a big fight between the government and the catholic church
teenage me: got it, so we’re obviously on the side of the government
current me: I, uh, you might want to sit down for this one
I did get my 2nd dose of MMR last year though - 1 dose was standard when I was a baby (changed to 2 when I was about 4). I am 100% team 'any others you want to give me while I'm here???'
I was too old to get any HPV vaccine and didn't realise that you could ask for it here as an adult anyway until I was also too old to do that (one of the handful of vaccines that at least on our NHS has a maximum age limit...)
I love that German hits the nail on the head by using the term "hobbyless behaviour" to describe those effects. Painting flags on roundabouts? Hobbyless behaviour. Harassing immigrants? Hobbyless behaviour. Picketing drag brunches? Hobbyless behaviour.
NASA: "Hey Artemis astronauts, you're back early
Reid Wiseman: "Outlook's haunted"
NASA: "What?"
Wiseman: (loading a shotgun) "Outlook's haunted"
photo of fluffy white dog with pink blossoming trees behind them. text below reads: You have found Forever Immunity Dog. Immunity dog protects you from all cursed posts for the rest of your life. Do not comment, like, or share those cursed posts. You are safe now. Immunity dog protects you.
"post something random or you'll have an absolutely awful April"?
no. you are safe now. Forever Immunity Dog has got you covered.
Photo of the opening paragraph of a book review: White trash Suicide of a nation Matt Goodwin (Northstar, £12.99) Matt Goodwin bills Suicide of a Nation as “the book they don't want you to read". Well, it's certainly a book I didn't want me to read. Goodwin, a former centrist academic turned Reform's in-house intellectual (who recently lost the Gordon and Denton by-election), has cultivated a social media presence somewhere between Kevin the Teenager and Roderick Spode. It felt unlikely he'd be more bearable at greater length.
Unimprovable opening to Private Eye’s review of Matt Goodwin’s ‘book’
I've written 2 fics (plus the one I'm currently working on) in the last decade so...
Ao3 Fandoms list showing: Torchwood 56 Glee 18 CSI 7 Merlin 5 Eastenders 5
It will take a looooot of writing for anything of mine to catch up
noooooooooo....
it is still my most prolific fandom by a very long way, I'd written bits and pieces in a few fandoms before that but TW I wrote allllll of the fic
I do still have a handful of fics which never got transferred over to AO3, mostly my very early ones which were either terrible, incomplete, or both...
I took part in a 2010 writing competition in torchwood fandom that was hosted on the site (making use of a hide-author-until-X-date competition feature) and the guy running it was involved with AO3 so got everyone invites (which were hard to come by at the time). I was still also posting on LJ then.

😱😱😱
there was a thing in the HR fandom on threads last week about what people's author number was on AO3, with a lot of people having numbers in 6 figures...
at which point I realised how long I'd been on AO3 compared to most people. With my 4 digit number.
yeah I think most of use cases I have are, at this point... things I already wrote convoluted PowerAutomate workflows to do for me. At least if those do something weird I can investigate and write a fix so it doesn't do it again!
the sum total of my interaction with gAI is that I asked copilot a couple times at work to help me with problems I was having writing a PowerAutomate flow (so within its own ecosystem!). It was absolutely useless and solved zero problems. If I'd HAD any trust in the concept it would have been gone.
"i have two Microsoft Outlooks, and neither one of those are working."
The Astronauts truly representing us all up there.
I hope the kidlets have a good game. That's about it.
a good thread but I want to add: literally all of every sport favors people with genetic advantages
but no one complains when cis men have them
Michael Phelps’ muscles produce HALF the lactic acid as an average cis man, meaning he can go twice as long before tiring
is that unfair?
nobody cared
“The athletes who’ll actually be barred are cis women who’ve never heard of the SRY gene.”

Timeline/planning doc for the fic I'm working on: around 550 words.
Words written of the fic so far: approx 14k
Words of the planning doc that are covered by what is written... maybe 80?
Definitely blowing waaaay past the ~20k I originally thought this fic would take
whereas mine is from the ~200 professional + couple dozen WNIHL hockey games I've attended and the years of training with my local team... it does mean that the hockey is the part of my current fic I have to do the least research or planning for lol. I can just crib from games I've watched...
oh as someone very familiar with hockey it has been so interesting seeing reactors who haven't a clue try to figure out what is going on in the hockey bits. (and occasionally frustrating reading fanfic from people who have no idea and didn't think to look it up...)
