The life and career of Polly Neate, the journalist who became a charity chief executive Outgoing Shelter CEO Polly Neate talks to Grainne Cuffe about her impressions of the housing sector, men’s rights activists egging her house and her next move.

My experience of reporting on welfare cuts over the last 12 years is that they result in very high levels of human misery and don't save anything like as much as they were intended to - especially when other costs are factored in. I don't expect Reeves' to be much different

I wrote about my brother Charlie’s final 48 hours, and his increasingly desperate attempts to track down an emergency supply of medication from the NHS. It’s an upsetting read but one I’m proud of. He’d be delighted to have made the @financialtimes.com magazine front cover: on.ft.com/434zZqn

City council refuses to pay part of ombudsman remedy over ‘unavoidable’ break of six-week law A council has refused part of the care ombudsman’s recommendation to compensate a woman after it broke the six-week legal cap on leaving homeless families in B&Bs.

Council refuses to pay compensation to family stuck in B&B for three times longer than the six-week legal limit, arguing that the law is 'more than 20 years old and does not take account of the national housing crisis'
