My recommendations:

Ambivalent Vision and Absolute Reason do tie in directly to one of the Act 2 main stories, and Esoteric Order is also quite a big lore drop for an Act 1 story

Do give those a read before moving to Act 2!

Umm.....I'm pretty sure both forms are, in fact canon. Both have been illustrated in story mode (added at a far later date than on release, which may be the cause of the confusion), and are both depicted in the Ether Strike and Axium Crisis song jackets?
