I think Jones is probably just one of those guys who just rolled insanely high in constitution, like he’s been abusing his body in all kinds of ways for decades, most normal people would be dead but somehow he’s still standing! Shame really couldn’t have happened to a worse bloke!

Need a hard copy of a book for my PhD as I find it much easier to work with actual texts. But it costs £25 on Amazon and £50 anywhere else. Wondering what the morality of getting it cheaper but less ethically is just leading to me not buying the damn book!

Why's he so red?

Remember Stock came out relatively late in life, she wasn’t part of any gay movement in the 1980s, she’s doing the queer equivalent of stolen valour!

Ok, its kinda hard to work this morning when a live action version of The Thick of It is playing out on national news!

Plus a whole generation of people first encountered the character through the early 2000s movies where jokes implying Shaggy is a stoner are literally in the text of the first film.

I guess it really depends on your views on textual determinism, but in my view fans and fandom have as much effect shaping how we understand a character than the author’s original vision.

I think it’s a matter of fandom, Shaggy is a stoner the same way Kirk and Spock are gay. It doesn’t matter if they were written that way by their original creators, though some of the writers were definitely hinting at it. Stoner Shaggy is now intrinsically part of the characters canon!

I recon they were hoping to keep him until the local elections so he could be a convenient fall guy for how bad labour are gonna do. But given the tone of things today I’m not sure if he’s gonna make it that long, the liberal media has turned on him!

Once again. These people do not want freedom of speech, they want the freedom to monolog without criticism.

They're going to end the freedom of speech of students to protest bigoted speakers they disagree with.

It seems Keith is having another “no good very bad day”

A cornerstone of fascism is anti intellectualism. Destroying universities ability to shed light on the harm being done and replacing them with propaganda machines is an essential to fascism gaining a foothold!

1 day ago 12 2 0 0

This is a part of a concerted attack on academia. Making universities a hostile environment for minorities, cutting funding to arts and humanities and making it illegal to outlaw blatant bigotry will further weaken universities ability to criticise the status quo as we slide ever closer to fascism

This obviously makes students (especially minorities) unsafe. There are recorded incidents of these speakers doxing migrant students. And having speakers expounding on how some students “don’t deserve rights” harms mental health and makes students less likely to complete their studies!

The fact that the government is taking the complaints of these bigoted attention seekers seriously shows how far we’ve fallen. They aren’t academics, they have literally no reason to be given a platform, yet because they now represent the views of those in power they are given that platform!

Doing talks at universities designed to cause outrage has been part of the far-right playbook since the 1960s when American Nazi George Lincoln Rockwell did it. The point is to cause an outcry from progressive students and therefore get coverage and sympathy because the “evil students” were mean!

It's ironic because my ethics department was super fastidious about the potentiality of doxing and harassment for my project, simply because I'm studying the alt-right. But the fact that I’d be receiving harassment from my actual colleagues simply for existing as a trans person never mattered.

I’m sorry you've experienced that, its horrible. I'm not really in the public eye but have still been advised to ignore the transphobic harassment I've received from other PhD students as the uni isn’t going to stick their neck out and potentially get fined again! it's open season for bigots!

Palantir raises more red flags when you learn the CEO, Alex Karp is obsessed with speaking in German and describes himself as a socialist but doesn't believe in any leftist economic policies.

Out of patience with cis queer people in charge of queer organisations who are quite happy to take funding to help trans people while calling us slurs or praising those who are harming us.

This isn't just about Stonewall.

It's worth considering those Stonewall chair's comments about Rowling as they seem to be intended - an olive branch to the GC community and a signal that Stonewall is one of the 'good ones' now.

There is literally no other reason to say what she said otherwise.

When has appeasing fascists ever worked???

2 days ago 0 0 0 0

I'm sorry, but this is utterly unacceptable from Stonewall's new Chair. And entirely unnecessary. Nothing is gained from this except communicating to trans people that Stonewall does not care about them.

Either he's lying or he's so incompetent he didn’t bother to check if the security clearance had gone through for one of the most controversial appointments in history. It fundamentally makes no difference which of these is true, it was his job to check, he’s PM, the buck stops with him!
