Jeffries threatening “maximum warfare” if Florida redistricts

Congratulations, Virginia! Republicans are trying to tilt the midterm elections in their favor, but they haven’t done it yet. Thanks for showing us what it looks like to stand up for our democracy and fight back.
Also, that time when Senator Edwin Johnson proposed a bill to give the Commerce Dept the power to bar employment for actors and actresses for "moral turpitude" because Ingrid Bergman had an affair with Roberto Rossellini while still married to her first husband.

83% of Americans live in cities. 83% of Americans are urban voters.
But keep telling us 17% of the population are the only real Americans, and should decide everything for everyone.
#infotainment for the win.
*Just in case* you didn't get that from the first headline...FFS.
Yes.
So much of our language reflects
the common “car first” bias around our streets, & we should never forget that much of that language was the result of deliberate campaigns to specifically re-write our perspective of streets as “for cars only.” This is one of the more subtle, but important, examples.
"I think it's a customer-service view..." There has to be some way to make people understand that politicians *represent* us; they don't work *for* us.
Not voting guarantees the worst outcome; there's no other store with a better selection; voting is 1/2 the job--the other 1/2 is mobilization.
I'm neither an optimist nor a pessimist: I'm a hopeful pragmatist.
I think our biggest problem is the 90m member Not Voting Party. Understanding why is the first step to fixing it.
I believe your 'most people' want to fix it; the framing is the problem.
(Sorry that post was such a bummer.)
I'm not sure most people etc. Relentless marketing of limitless "choices" couched in "you're so special and different from everyone else" has deeply corrupted Americans' ability to a. see themselves in a collective reality and b. understand how politics and government are different from shopping.
Also: "They have to earn my vote." No they don't. These are the two choices, pick the least bad one. Not voting is picking the worst one, the one you want the least. There is no other store with a better selection.
My bet would be on more Republicans.
This is what happens 30 years later when teenagers get paid insane amounts of money because they can write code, and know nothing but how to write code.
100% The biggest political party in the US is the Not Voting Party
Total registered Dems: 40m +/-
Total registered Repubs: 30m +/-
This graph is wrong. Stop sharing it.
Misrepresenting the situation as Dems v Republicans won't get us to the *right* questions that lead to solutions.

That feeling when you need to make up something silly to prove you're not...
It's like someone looked at "They're eating the pets" and thought "That's genius!"
Dem control of Congress: 4 out of the last 20 years.
Wall Street donations to political campaigns: $1.8bn
Health industry: $500m
Fossil fuel industry donations to political campaigns: $445m
AIPAC: $127m
But you do you! Blame AIPAC and "corporate" Dems.
Smells like antisemitism in here.

📢 We've reached *3000* documented authoritarian-like actions of Trump's second term since Jan 2025...
the two most recent are classic suppression of the press & using the justice system to attack political enemies

Detroit and Dearborn are both in Wayne County.
About 18% of MI's population lives in Wayne County.
Three Democratic House reps represent Wayne County.
Kamala Harris won Wayne County by a margin of +28%
In 2024, Trump won MI by less than 1.5%
Maybe this would work out better if there were some acknowledgement that it's people who declare Independent who decide presidential elections, not Republicans or Democrats.
What do you mean "could?" That's exactly what it *does* create. The comparison with Jim Crow is a gross distortion and understatement: this is comparable millions of people become stateless following the collapse of Ottoman or Soviet empires, and post-WW 2.

I get you completely. *So* grateful for the people who manage to keep their ideals and commitment to public service intact, and who *also* want to do --*love* doing--this ugly job called politics. They deserve our support.
Hypocrites? How about: that was then, this is now. Let's win some elections!
Of course! His vision shaped *public opinion*, essential *in a democracy*. Because: votes.
I'm Mamdani's biggest fan. But misunderstanding what the mayor does, what the governor does, forgetting completely that it's the legislature that makes laws, begs for a dictator and a king.
Not a detail.
100%
But congratulating MTG for breaking with Trump is good electoral strategy: It makes space for voters who *are* having second thoughts to consider voting for Democrats. That's who people like Ilhan Omar are speaking to.
I don't know about this guy--he seems confused about a lot of things.

The only good thing about it is all the evidence for the prosecution.

You WIN.
Apparently you haven't been reading this thread or following politics in NY.
The opposition campaign materials of Mamdani smiling for selfies with Jeff and Lauren Bezos and Kim Kardashian, or, alternatively, snubbing everyone at the Gala--are you KIDDING.
