Why we're boycotting the government's BBC Charter Survey:
👉Absence of workforce consideration
👉Limited detail and scope
👉Possible use of AI to aggregate responses, likely to generate overly simplistic conclusions

Really great to have given evidence to the
Culture Select committee yesterday.
Lots of steps that the UK govt could get on with to address the work for performers and creatives that has disappeared since Brexit!
We've written to Culture Secretary @lisanandymp.bsky.social
asking her to prioritise improved access to Europe for performing artists and creative workers in Monday’s EU-UK Summit ⬇️

One interesting thing about this is it doesn't amount to a strategy at all.
And here are some starter packs

'Would you feel safer [from the far right] if we were members of the EU again?'

What is this please?
The point though is surely less about how Musk's behaviour informs British opinion, and more about how it impacts British politics - the imprint it leaves on our institutions.
Lovely Sunday reading on Walter Benjamin's last days, by @danhancox.bsky.social

Even with all the caveats about polling this far out. This is a sea change in UK opinion in favour of the far right.
Labour response so far absolutely dreadful. Give the people hope and change! It's what they want!
Very important lesson, especially given current AI consultation seeking to transfer rights away from the creative industries at the behest of big tech!
Presumably the fear is that in enforcing a boundary with Robinson etc, they may be denying themselves a kind of popular base, however unpalatable some elements of it may be.
Define 'everything'?

A visualization showing that while other developed nations achieve life expectancies of 82-84 years with health spending of $3,000-$6,000 per capita, the United States spends nearly $10,000 per capita only to achieve a life expectancy of 78.7 years (as of 2018). Japan, Spain, and other nations lead with longer lives at far lower costs, while the US stands as a stark outlier – spending the most for worse health outcomes.
This chart is an indictment of the US for-profit health care system.
All of those lost years are the cost of profits being claimed.
A paragraph from Ta-Nehisi Coates' book The Message, which reads: "It may seem strange that people who have already attained a position of power through violence invest so much time in justifying their plunder with words. But even plunderers are human beings whose violent ambitions must contend with the guilt that gnaws at them when they meet the eyes of their victims. And so a story must be told, one that raises a wall between themselves and those they seek to throttle and rob."
Ta-Nehisi Coates wields words like sledgehammers.

Sat down with @brunoleipold.com to discuss his book "Citizen Marx". We talked about the influence of Republicanism in Marx's thought, and why the left must take the lead in the conversation on freedom—rather than leaving it to conservatives and liberals. Don't miss it! jacobin.com/2024/12/marx...
Love to be added, working on a radical history of alternative models of the firm!
Got carried away during the whole viral Danish Marxism moment, and now most of my feed is in a language that I don't speak or understand.
Go see this!
Enjoyed this poem by Joseph Fasano.

Out of curiosity, am reading a bit about the market for farmland. This briefing is from January.
"Meanwhile, non-farmer buyers – who are a mix of private and institutional investors and lifestyle buyers – accounted for 56% of sales"

The Farmer's Protest today was very strange, a lot of very red-faced men in tweed, being addressed by millionaires.
I'm not sure it will convince many of the need for them to retain a huge inheritance tax break.
