This is incredible.

How could anyone believe that about a guy who *checks notes* chainsawed the head off a whale to tie to his car, and dumped a dead bear cub in Central Park because he didn’t have time to eat it
“Failing to protect our Afghan allies sends a dangerous message to the world: that U.S. commitments are conditional and temporary,”
www.nytimes.com/2025/01/25/w...
So cruel and so stupid. And in the long run none of this will save money, even if we are just looking at the pittance of the federal budget that is used to support refugees
Wildly unlawful and will immediately cause MORE chaos for refugees and, ironically, force them to use more benefits like SNAP!
PEPFAR is the one good legacy of the George W Bush years, and has literally saved millions of lives. Where is the pro-life outrage on this one?
I’m going to talk about pages 11, 12, and 13 of this brief in depth, because that is the part where the Trump DOJ tries to defend the Trump Executive Order.
The lawyers here so deeply misrepresent some of the cited material that it should be cause for sanctions in any just world.

CHNV parole was an unmitigated success-decreasing irregular border crossing for those nationalities by 98% according to CBP. People who came on this pathway followed the rules and have quickly and lawfully joined the US economy. Now Trump admin intends to deport them: www.nytimes.com/2025/01/23/u...
Well, this horrible act passed, but at least Rep. Deluzio changed his vote to Nay. This was 100% due to pressure from constituents, so please continue to engage even when it feels like democracy is failing us. clerk.house.gov/Votes/202523
AOC 🔥🔥🔥
Please call Deluzio and ask him to change his vote to NO on Laken Riley. Here's the letter I wrote this week:
According to a State Department memo, thousands of refugees who had been cleared for admission to the United States have had their travel cancelled immediately, including those who were slated to arrive before the executive order’s effective date of January 27, 2025.

I'm disgusted by so many of the profoundly damaging EOs from last night. But I take personal offense that they call out Charleroi, PA, where my great grandparents found refuge from Irish famine, to justify their attack on refugees. PA was built by immigrants and refugees! tinyurl.com/3s3dy4yh
When people say "why don't they get in line like they are supposed to", this is the only line, and it just got shut down. Tens of thousands of appointments cancelled and probably hundreds of thousands of people who have been trying to get appointments, all stranded in Mexico.
Lots of interesting inside baseball on Mexican migration politics here, and a reminder of how complex regional migration dynamics are. Time will tell how the Trump admin navigates these issues. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/14/w...
My dad and sis came to LA last week and we took them on a hike through Eton Canyon. This is a mile from my in-laws’ house. They are safely evacuated but this is so scary and sad. www.pasadenastarnews.com/2025/01/07/t...
As I told @sojo.net, churches focus on supporting people who need it and nurturing the faith of their community – not checking people's citizenship status. Trump's plan to un-designate churches as sensitive locations is an assault on religious liberty.

Our editorial in @newhumanitarian.bsky.social we tell aid agencies that their failure to unambiguously call out Israel’s war crime is complicity.

Very excited to read this. Prof. Bright’s death penalty seminar I took at @georgetownlaw.bsky.social was among the most impactful and memorable parts of law school for me.
So... What does it actually mean that European states including the UK are "suspending" asylum claims from Syrian nationals?
Irresponsible & xenophobic commentary aside, here's the facts as I understand them:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdPE...
Way to go Aaron! Laying out in plain, precise language why we should not spend almost a trillion dollars to separate families, wreck our econonmy, and hypercharge inflation. The choice is clear!
Thinking of all the Syrian families who were so hospitable to us when we travelled there before the war. All the refugees I’ve worked with and alongside for years. And everyone else with loved ones in that beautiful country. I hope this is a first step toward peace.
"The Biden administration now has a last chance to prevent an impending disaster by working with the Mexican government to expand access to asylum at land border ports of entry, a policy approach that a majority of American voters support." Excellent op ed from @yaelschacher.bsky.social & Ari Sawyer
Same thing happening in the US. Nov. saw the lowest # of border apprehensions in the Biden presidency, lower than any month under Trump in the year before COVID, but the media still talks about Trump's mandate to end "historic" irregular migration: bsky.app/profile/adam...
Imagine the many, many positive things the UK government could have done with all this money.
Trump the dealmaker gets Mexico to agree to do the same thing they are already doing www.nytimes.com/2024/11/27/u...
Looks like Pres. Scheinbaum got the message ;) "Sheinbaum said Mexico suffered from an influx of weapons smuggled in from the United States, and said the flow of drugs “is a problem of public health and consumption in your country’s society.” apnews.com/article/mexi...
"Though ['external deterrence'] receives less media attention than incoming President Donald Trump’s promise of mass deportation, it will be a key area to watch as he works to fulfill his pledge to stop migrants from coming." 💯 Expect diplomacy/coercion across the region to deter migration
Using the same logic, Mexico and Canada could impose tariffs on US goods until we get serious about:
- Reducing US citizens' voracious demand for illicit drugs
- Stopping cross-border trafficking of weapons easily purchased at US gun shops
- Curtailing money-laundering in US banks, real estate etc.
