_"The Government’s consistent cheerleading for data centre expansion has reached a point of reckless disconnect from the economic reality of Irish citizens... Irish families are paying nearly double the electricity rates of these industrial facilities, effectively subsidizing the massive energy consumption of global tech giants while struggling with a punishing cost-of-living crisis." https://greenparty.ie/news/uncritical-expansion-data-centres-will-fuel-social-inequality-and-energy-crisis-cllr-hazel-chu
Data centres uses 32% of Ireland's total electricity supply but pay almost less than half of the residential rate. So we're effectively subsidizing tech giants during a cost of living & energy crisis. Meanwhile this Govt continues to cheerlead their expansion & continue to fail in their obligations.

After living through the Nazi & atomic bomb eras, Tove Jansson writings would often encompass fearful ideas about loss of a familiar world. However she would balance this with characters who displayed kindness & community, showing goodness even in the darkest times

Who would’ve guessed? An administration filled with grossly incompetent people, led by the stupidest president to ever occupy the Oval Office, failed to end the illegal war they started.

Guardian says "marathon" peace talks, but without quotes for a mere twenty-hour session.
The talks which led to the Good Friday Agreement took nearly two years, with a longer process of engagement before then.

A bunch of pale yellow primroses and their green leaves against a background of dried leaves, twigs and rotted bark at the bottom of my London garden.
I’m usually away at this time of year, invariably missing the moment when the primroses start blooming at the bottom of the garden. It is difficult to think of a plant that carries the hope and freshness of spring the way a primrose does. Worth staying home for.
Fear-Free Fish Stew is #RecipeOfTheDay! I turn to this often, and gratefully. For one thing, I just adore the taste of it, but on top of that, I love that I can cook the sauce ahead, then just reheat and pop the fish in it for mere moments at the last minute. www.nigella.com/recipes/fear...

Therapists do not condone "retraumatising" victims of sexual abuse through the use of counselling notes in criminal trials, the Dáil has been told.
We knew the story of the international rules-based order was partially false. That the strongest would exempt themselves when convenient. That trade rules were enforced asymmetrically. And we knew that international law applied with varying rigour depending on the identity of the accused or the victim.
This fiction was useful. And American hegemony, in particular, helped provide public goods: open sea lanes, a stable financial system, collective security and support for frameworks for resolving disputes. So, we placed the sign in the window. We participated in the rituals. And we largely avoided calling out the gaps between rhetoric and reality. This bargain no longer works.
In the face of European leader after European leader meekly invoking “rules-based order”, “international law”, “closely monitoring”, “the UN Charter”…
It’s almost alien to see someone say “yeah, no, that was a lie and we all knew it.”

No, I will not “shut up” about “AI” being an ecology-wrecking fascist grift, and honestly I judge anyone who asks me to do so.
