What Trump and his accolades seem to want is to get his hands into the "prize" of charging a toll. With them it's all about the money.
He basically said exactly that a few days ago. He wasn't angry with the toll. He was angry that it wasn't him who was getting the money
It doesn't feel logical from a systemic level. What this creates is even more fear and reluctance for any vessel to travel through Hormuz. I get the intent, but it's likely going to backfire (yet again)

Other than Trump wanting to get his hands on the new tolls at Hormuz, this is systemic incompetence.
I know it could be argued that colonialism has never actually gone away... But there's a feeling that this phase is way more visible.
I sense we are seeing the beginning of a new colonial era. The US is clearly actively engaged in securing natural resources ( #Venezuela, #Nigeria, #Greenland). China has been doing it softly for a while. Saudi Arabia and the Emirates are playing their own version. Russia too.

Correct. Her comments about the UK's perceived "competitive advantage" is a reflection of the general malaise that contributed to Brexit. Sadly, Labour is not entirely free from it.
Right after the #brexit referendum in 2016, I told a group of Remainers that it would take 30-40 years before the #UK would be ready to rejoin the #EU.
It's not even a decade yet. The UK has barely started its journey to discover how it fits in in the modern world. Still playing colonial games.
"We have to look at the areas where we have competitive advantage and exploit those".
What if there aren't enough (even any) of those? What if those we had existed because we were in the EU?
