Spanning informal collectives to formalized organizations, it centers how people build support systems in everyday life and emergencies—and what challenges they face. Focusing on gender, it examines how power dynamics and inequalities shape self-organization and access to self-organized support.

The book explores the vital yet often overlooked role of refugee-led organizations #RLOs. Based on research in Uganda's Kyaka II & Kampala, it shows how people challenge restrictions, create economic opportunities, and foster belonging—collectively by self-organizing.
