I know what it is to put a lot of work into an awards ceremony and receive pushback about it and I know your position isn't easy, but I would ask you to reconsider the tone of this response and consider the deeper dimensions of why Steve's video is relatable to people.
Moreover, this is already encouraging a trend of several white people having a dismissive or defensive reaction to a very well-reasoned good faith critique by a person of color. If you want to be for the community, this ain't how you respond when someone brings up something like this.
I completely understand how terrible it is to be harassed in the wake of opposing Zionism and this isn't meant to dismiss the very real impact of that, but this response is wildly defensive and really disappointing.
As one of my partners said to me re: the CRIT awards this year, ‘Damn, this category really is wall to wall white dudes, huh?’ That’s a big problem, and the fact that there’s limited transparency around how the CRITs work only contributes to the issue.
The thing that annoys me about the Crit Awards being a popularity contest is that everyone nominated DESERVES recognition, but because there's no real analysis, critique, or intention beyond winning votes, the actual art, work, and services are not ACTUALLY being talked about in a meaningful way
