Are you saying that conservative student operatives were responsible for organizing and maintaining several dozen multi-week encampments and protests across universities all over the country?

The purpose of a major party candidate is to secure enough votes to win the election. a candidate that fails to do so is a bad candidate.

gender caused portions of the electorate to discriminate against her.

I’m not prescriptive about race for a candidate. I think a black woman could win the presidency, but that it is far more dependent on her policies. I think Harris was a bad candidate because of her inability to break from Biden. You seem to think Harris was a bad candidate because her race and

Huh. Well I can’t say I agree with that.

If you say so. Personally, I’d save my spleen for Gavin Newsom, who is actively trying to secure your vote while selling out trans people, than some anonymous polity of vote splitters.

I’m glad we’re in agreement! But I don’t know why you want to call people entitled pricks when you agree that a democratic candidate should make some concessions that secure their vote.

interesting. Do you think democrats should nominate a Black woman to run in 2028?

If I was a candidate I would commit to an arms embargo on Israel and full support of the rights of trans people. Those are the two major sticking points that I see people on the left saying are dealbreakers for support of a candidate.

I feel like we’re going in circles now. You can claim to be practical and say you don’t understand the logic of abstainers all you want. It doesn’t change the fact that those people exist, they exist in large enough numbers to influence elections, and you need them to win in 28.

The pressure of the Cold War was also channeled into a series of proxy conflicts that decimated developing nations. I don’t think you get to claim the positive domestic outcomes of the Cold War and ignore things like Vietnam.

I’m talking about swing or abstain voters. I don’t think telling them to fuck off is going to do you any favors in gathering their support for 2028.

Oh I see. You‘ll have to forgive me for being confused since you specifically used the term “white man”. What do you make of the support for AOC to run in 2028? Do you think people who abstained in 24 wouldn’t vote for her?

Well then I’m not sure why you’re saying that race was the primary hang-up for voters that supported Biden in 2020 but not Kamala. seems to me like the extremely unpopular foreign policy wrt Israel would be a bigger issue.

I agree, but I don’t think the solution to that involves telling people to fuck off, I think it involves actually listening to what they want.

I think giving people the things they want, or at least promising on the campaign trail that you’ll fight for them, goes a lot further towards securing durable voters. But that also means listening to what trans people want wrt legal protections, and what leftists want wrt foreign policy.

You may disagree, but I feel like “Trump must go first, everything else has to wait” was the argument of Biden ‘20. It worked, he won, but then voters forgot how bad Trump was 4 years later. I don’t think that strategy builds durable coalitions. You may win 28 and lose again in 32.

I understand you perfectly, and your language doesn’t offend. But I’m not sure how you square that stance with the need to flip some of those voters in order to win in 2028, or with your claim that you “listen to everyone”

1 week ago 1 0 1 0

You say you listen to everyone, but earlier in this thread when I suggested that leftist concerns be listened to in order to win their votes you said “then fuck them” and called them “stupid pieces of shit”
Is that what listening sounds like?

1 week ago 0 0 1 0

Well… Why not listen to the trans folks then?

I’m not talking about how you and I are voting. I’m talking about how Democrats are supposed to win an election if they don’t appeal to people who abstained or voted Trump in 2024.

i guess I’m a bit confused here, Sid. How are you going to win 2028 without getting some people who didn’t vote or voted for Trump in 24 to side with you this time?

1 week ago 2 0 2 0

Is it your contention that Biden 20 -> abstain 24 voters also didn’t vote for Obama?

1 week ago 0 0 1 0

I never said anything about “equally bad” so I’m not sure why you’re bringing it up. I’m pointing out that Biden won in 2020, Harris lost in 24. Presumably quite a few leftists voted in 20 and abstained in 24. Maybe that means they’re worth listening to in 28?

1 week ago 4 0 1 0

Presumably many of these people voted for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020 and then sat out in 2024. So it doesn’t seem like the problem was with the person (they’re at least willing to hold their nose and vote) but with things the person said and did while in office.

1 week ago 0 0 1 0

Idk, I feel like if you think leftists sitting out cost you the election in 2024 it might be worth listening to them when they tell you who is a dealbreaker in 2028.
