I spent some time yesterday noodling about Amy Schiller's THE PRICE OF HUMANITY and the questions it raised for me about US higher education’s interpellation into the ideology behind Effective Altruism. kfitz.info/humanities-p...

We always did say that the real power of MLA Style was its ability to support the appropriate citation of any source. <3
And, mmm, KC Works deposit ☺️
Juuuuust going to note that if “the Oscars” needed that definition, we have already learned a lot about students’ interest in award shows.
I really don’t think enough is being made of the fact that it’s a three supposedly do-nothing toothless scholarly organizations—the AHA, the MLA, and the ACLS— who are directly responsible for one of the clearest and most damning exposures of this administration’s stupidity and malfeasance.
As someone who watched the careful stewardship of grants over many years, the lack of care and the dismissal of the hard work of scholars and NEH program staff described here is devastating and shameful.

Been doing a lot of criticism of ubiquitous infrastructure without the needed equal and opposite hyping of alternatives, so:

There are many research hosting services out there. Lots of them want to host your work in order to mine it for profit. Knowledge Commons wants to build a coalition of researchers, teachers, students, and more, in order to resist the authoritarian effort to undermine public access to knowledge.
Knowledge Commons provides free tools for scholars, students, and independent researchers but we can't do that without community support. Check out our new program below and become a part of the future of scholarly communications.
ICYMI we announced KC Champions this morning! 📣

Hi friends. I haven’t been around here much and intend to be around here even less going foreward. Mastodon is far from perfect, but if you’re looking for a scholar-run space that promises not to blue-check fascists, we’d love to see you at hcommons.social.
KCWorks also mints DOIs! works.hvommons.org
