On Earth as It Is in Heaven: Matthew's Vision of God's Kingdom Serving God's Royal Rule (5)

"If Matthew uses [Kingdom of] “heaven” to avoid saying “God,” why does he go on to refer to “God”—not once or twice, but some fifty times?"

"In fact, Matthew’s language is shaped by the book of Daniel." ⚓

I remember posting on FB the factual agreed upon range of birth years for "millennial" and all the people born in the 80s were soooo mad. They refused the label. Too bad suckers!

Thee we worship
and from Thee we seek help.

Guide us upon the straight path,
the path of those whom Thou hast blessed,
not of those who incur wrath,
nor of those who are astray.

Al-Fatiha, "The Opening"

In the Name of God,
the Compassionate, the Merciful.

Praise be to God,
Lord of the worlds,
the Compassionate, the Merciful,
Master of the Day of Judgment.

surah fatiha recitation: the best, I ever listen YouTube video by Islam Gallery

I did an intro to Islam with the students tonight. I found this really beautiful, haunting recitation of the Quran's first Sura. ☪️

Israeli soldiers are speaking out about “moral injury” from the Gaza war, describing guilt, shame, and identity breakdown after killing civilians, witnessing abuse, or staying silent. One soldier recalls firing on unarmed men and boys, later describing himself as a “monster.” Others describe executions, torture and humiliation of Palestinian detainees, looting, and cover-ups.

History Speaks
@History__Speaks
A female IDF soldier tells Haaretz that, pursuant to the orders of the battalion commander, five Palestinians were mowed down by an IDF tank simply because they entered a "kill zone."

The one survivor of the five was held in a cage, in which one of the other "IDF soldiers" urinated on him.

Of course, this Palestinian ended up being a civilian, not a Hamas fighter. (Not surprising, since the only "evidence" he was a combatant was that he was in a kill zone.)

I associate the 5th season of most sitcoms as the time when it gets long in the tooth

Same but for me it was his blogging, by which I absorbed principles that made it into the boook

I followed his blog in the 2010s (and even draft chapters of the book he posted on it), so I get to say I knew him before he was cool

(To be fair, the basic theology of the resurrection is novel for most Christians, it’s just that mainliners have more resources to expose you to those truths)

In a church culture like that, I can get away with a lot of “basics” about the resurrection that are novel for evangelicals, so I settled on three points:

Jesus’ resurrection:
1. Is a new creation
2. Gives us a risen life to practice today
3. Carries our wounds

I did something different today, guest preaching for the English service at my mom’s evangelical Chinese church. I had 35 minutes.

Rather than draft a 3000 word manuscript, I made slides and a presentation outline. Preached on last week’s lectionary Gs, Doubting Thomas. Was well received!

God hears us in the desert, and looks upon us with tenderness and grace. I’m glad you’re here

Just want you to know this is very relatable

My main thing to move forward has been recognizing that I’m avoiding a lot of my anger and that’s making me apathetic to life, even things I normally value. But I’m not you!

Bible in a year can be very edifying but I would think nowadays it's something that works better for very advanced readers. It doesn't work as a means of achieving literacy
