It’s not all about ‘entertainment’. You really should learn about all the other good and extremely important things the BBC does, and has done, throughout its history. To reduce it to ‘entertainment’ is extremely reductive and incredibly short sighted.

Decouple funding and board appointments from the government of the day, removing charter renewal threats and fears of defunding, then we might start to reverse the rot. It’s a long shot, but totally worth fighting for.

It’s difficult to navigate certainly, but that doesn’t mean throwing the towel in on public service broadcasting. Should we ever get a passingly decent government, the BBC funding model should be changed to be from general taxation and BBC appointments be made independent of government.

The far right want nothing more than the BBC to be broken up so they can gobble up the profitable parts and abandon all the great things it does that no-one else will because they are not profitable.

I find it harder and harder to defend the BBC as an organisation, but the alternative is worse.

No it doesn’t. It needs returning back to being a decent public service broadcaster. Its board and news department need gutting of all the Conservative and neo-con placemen that have rotted it from the inside out. For most of its existence the right have moaned about it having left wing bias.

^I came here to say this. Robin has been nothing but a decent human being in his support for trans people online, and his opposition to bigotry and hatred, and felt obliged to step down as a BBC freelancer, while Navratilova does this with seeming impunity. The double standards are off the scale.

There’s this bloke by the name of Hugh Reeker who keeps slipping me German expressionist masterpieces and the occasional Hong Kong action movie.

Apparently Bramham later divorced his husband, deciding he wasn’t gay after all. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Those bollocks got smashed completely in vain!

Because Meta’s RayBan creeper glasses were not making it obvious enough that you were, in fact, a creeper.

I’m so sorry you have to put up with all this Robyn. It’s absolutely appalling. I don’t wish to seem trite, but I really still believe things *will* eventually get better - I just don’t know how long we have to wait before they eventually turn a corner. But we will fight until they do.

Certainly sounds like he’s probably on a few watchlists.

More likely they store them onsite for the duration of the course whilst they’re a work in progress and you take them home at the end (at which time you can employ assistance to get them home or just say they can go in the bin or be broken back up for materials).

^what Chris said.
They can’t assume everyone drives in or can carry these things about. I expect there are accommodations for this sort of thing as they’ll likely have encountered most of the usual logistical difficulties in previous classes.

“The Ruins” maybe, by Scott Smith.

The film is excellent.

Yes. The film is enjoyable nonsense and not nearly as excruciating as the book sounds.

Was going to say, they’d probably still invite Farage on anyway.

He was running for election as a Tory at the time, and a known agitator, so his ejection was highly popular amongst the people it mattered to in the moment, despite how the right wing press subsequently painted it.

It was probably the victimhood he craved anyway.

None whatsoever. He was entirely amongst friends and like minded people on that march.

I believe he got a cheer.

My son Joel was one of the people who ran him off the march in Manchester where he was agitating with his transphobic bullshit.

I’ve never been prouder.

The ‘Supernatural World’ omnibus desperately needs a reprint. Copies on the secondary market are insanely expensive.

My two boys grew up with my copy, so I eventually had to buy them their own.

I think the size of ‘multipack’ crisps however is approaching the ‘taking the piss’ threshold.

Thankfully that’s not yet happened in the UK. We take crisps *very* seriously 😆
