The only “best of the year” list I need:
🧵👇
Glad you had fun! Favorite spot?
Daffodil Books if you’re into Romantasy (try their themed coffee drinks). Places to stay: the Gordon and the Graduate are the nicest hotels, and there are many cheaper one. I often tell friends that Airbnb or VRBO are the best options; DM me if you have questions about locations.
Amazon Park for a great walking path, and Alton Baker Park for a walk by the river. You can also hike 45 min up to Spencer Butte, which on a clear day (not many of those, though) has a 360 degree view of the city.
Ok, in addition to the suggestions I’ve seen so far: The Jordan Schnitzer art museum on the UO campus. Nearby is the small but cute Maude Kerns art museum. Meraki Cafe. 5th St Market for shops and cafes. Farmers Union Coffee Roasters. Great restaurants in Blair in the Whitaker.
I live here! How old are the kids?

Doubt truth to be a liar
It’s a wonderful feeling when you see kids you taught in middle school, now all grown up, cited in the academic papers you’re editing.
Public health depends on citizens accepting scientifically-grounded guidance. When official institutions produce politically-determined science and independent verification infrastructure is eliminated, the capacity for evidence-based health policy collapses, writes Renée DiResta.

My 30-pound dog has delusions of grandeur and thinks she can take on a four-point buck. Luckily the fence is doing its job and the buck has no shits to give.
All these people avoiding m-dashes because “AI uses them” simply means that there’s more for me!
UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera
In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.
As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.
Update: Made it out of Burbank!
Meanwhile, my fellow passengers remain calm and the desk attendant is doing all she can.
I’ll wait, no problem, if it means we save health care. (Very aware that I’m lucky to have the freedom/ability to wait, while others don’t.)
Caught in the government shutdown mess waiting for a flight at the lovely Burbank, CA, airport, where there are currently no air traffic controllers.
Chef’s kiss.
The right has built a social architecture of state-enforced harassment for implementing ideological and social control through participatory engagement and bottom-up escalation of individual’s grievances via personal media creation and sharing (cf trading up the media chain)
former kids who read too many books and didnt know how to pronounce the words you learned gang say hey
D.C. has more residents than two U.S. states. They pay more per capita in federal taxes than any other state.
But they don’t get a serious seat at the table to decide how they’re governed.
D.C. statehood now.
And trying to figure out if my 82-year-old mother needs an exit plan.
