3 days after a positive COVID test, 2 days after an ER visit & finally getting necessary meds, I feel almost human again. Well, at least my asthma is now responding to meds
I did avoid the virus for 5 years so I knew my luck would run out eventually. I guess no covid shot for a couple months then 🤷🏻♀️

***Should read “myself AND our lab manager” (I have been the lab manager in the past but the last several years I have been the science department lead)
Screenshot of the “about” page of our new campus, with photo showing the front of the building with students.
New science lab looking towards the lab workspace, corrosive cabinet, fridge and fire extinguisher/fire blanket, plus the window overlooking the library.
Another view of lab looking the opposite direction showing cabinets containing lab kits, kitchen/cleaning supplies, microscopes, and other equipment.
New semester, new campus, but I survived the first week of fall semester! The new campus is taking a little to get used to including working out some HVAC and tech issues, but I’m excited about our new science lab that myself, our lab manager (with some help) set up from scratch!

Biology teachers check out this cool bacteria- what a great example to use when teaching cellular respiration!

Also my cats. If you hadn’t noticed.
As long as I live, I will never understand how “it should be easier for multi-billion-dollar corporations to dump poison in the water my children drink” became popular politics with half the country.

Wait until you find out that the United States has deported dozens of American citizens in the last decade. 70 between 2015 and 2020. And that was when he wasn’t trying.
Oh and I’m an attorney too. This is just factually incorrect.
A US judge blocks the deportation of Palestinian Columbia University student Mahmoud Khalil and sets a hearing for Wednesday after his arrest over protests against Israel’s war on Gaza.

The cruelty is the point. This administration DOES NOT CARE about anyone but themselves and wealth. It’s disgusting.
I spent many decades working to make things better in my field (I started college in the early 90s and got my PhD in 2017) and IT DIDN’T GET BETTER. I just didn’t have enough stamina left to continue. My one regret is that I couldn’t make a difference for those who came after me.
In case anyone is wondering why I left the field after getting my PhD.
“And let’s be clear—this isn’t a case of “not being tough enough.” It’s a case of not wanting to endure unnecessary hostility in a field that should be driven by curiosity and collaboration, not gatekeeping.”
This news truly breaks my heart.
We are calling on HHS to take immediate action. Secretary Kennedy needs to bring back weekly measles tracking from the CDC, rehire the health experts, and roll out a serious vaccine campaign. Our kids' safety is on the line!

In troubling times, people experiencing high stress or crippling anxiety deal with it in different ways. Some have a therapist, some have a deep breathing exercise & some even have a personal mantra.

I don’t know. They’re litter mates but fathers are unknown. She is very affectionate but so is her sister.

While I need to keep updated about the state of the country, posts on social are not good for my mental health.
So if I don’t react to something important you posted, it’s not that I don’t care, it’s because I need to protect myself mental health.
(Kitty pic to break up your doomscrolling) 😽💜
I always check with stuff like this, and yup. It's listed this way on Maps.

I was just told that I have to remove “climate” from the title of an ongoing grant if I want to keep it. And publications from that grant cannot include “climate” and other forbidden words. I can’t believe I’m writing this from the United States of America. #AcademicSky
We’re not just getting to a dystopia. We’ve been in a dystopia. The warnings in all your favorites aren’t about the future. They’ve always been about what we’re doing in the moment, so maybe we’ll actually look at what’s happening instead of just shrugging at the news.

SCOOP: Cats that became infected with bird flu might have spread the virus to humans in the same household and vice versa, according to data that briefly appeared online in a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention but then abruptly vanished.
