A sunny welcome back to all our students for Trinity term! 🌞 It's lovely to see you all working hard already.
Don't forget to take breaks and hydrate - our Common Room has a water fountain 🚰 and spots for you to sit and comfortably rest
There are still a few days left to see the Poiesis exhibition in the Voltaire Room.
The room is accessible via stairs at the back of the Main Reading Room and by stairs from the basement.
A beige poster with an image of fair skinned hand in the centre, palm up. The photo has black sketch marks drawn around it. In the lower left of the poster is the exhibition title "Poiesis" in large black font. Brown text reads "11-18 April 2026" in the top right corner and "Taylor Institution Library, Oxford University" "Mon-Fri 9am-7pm - Sat 10am-6pm Access to Taylor Institution Library Required"
This week at the Taylor we're hosting an intimate art exhibition in the Voltaire Room.
London-based artist Ana Palma will be exhibiting pieces from the hidden side of her creative process- sketches, props and other fragments from her art in its embryonic form.
Open until 6pm this Saturday.

🛠️Scaffolding update🛠️
The scaffolding has now passed the Main Reading Room! Noise disruption is expected to be ongoing as scaffolding is constructed on all 3 sides of this part of the building.
Staff can suggest quieter areas to work and transfer confined books to other libraries on request!
This photograph shows six of the Taylorian's books, which are covered in eleven small, fluffy plastic Easter chicks. There are five books stacked in a pile in the background, with their spines facing the camera, and one laying open in the foreground. Four chicks sit on top of the stack of books, and three sit on the third book in the stack. Four chicks sit on the open book. The chicks are yellow, blue, green and pink.

A fragile special collections item with a loose page, with a yellow slip next to it. The slip reads 'to be consulted at the invigilated desk'
An image of the invigilated desk. It is a wooden desk with a leather inlaid chair. There are book rests on the table, and a special collections item with a loose page and an invigilated desk slip. There is a posted encouraging the use of book rests and book snakes.
If the item is particularly fragile, it will have a yellow slip in it.
This means you need to take special care when using the item, and look at it at our invigilated desk.
A special collections book with a marbled cover. It has a green 'confined to the library' special collections slip in it.
Once you have sent the request, it will be delivered to the location you have selected (usually within 24 hours!). You will receive an email notification once it has arrived ✉️
At the Taylorian, we keep these requests in a secure location. Head to the second-floor Enquiries Desk to collect them. 📖
If you know an item is not special collections, please do not request it to be delivered to the Special Collections Staffed Collect!
All non-special collections use in library only items should be requested to the Main Self-Collect instead ✅
A screenshot of SOLO showing the request options for an item. There is a dropdown box saying 'loan policies'. Underneath, a heading reading 'Delivery/Pickup Location' has a padlock symbol above it, and reads 'Taylor Library Special Collections Staffed Collect'. There is a green 'Send Request' button.
Sometimes you can request non-Taylorian special collections items to our Taylor Library Special Collections Staffed Collect location.
If this is possible, it will be an option in the dropdown 'Delivery/Pickup Location' box.

Some items can only be delivered to the special collections desk associated with the institution that owns the item.
For example, this item (a fascinating Artists' Book showing various stories about a shrimp) can only be requested to the Taylorian, so the location has a padlock symbol🔒

If it's an offsite special collections item, it will say 'Offsite Storage - Special Collections, must request delivery'. Click on the item, then the green 'Request Options' button. ❇️
Special collections items that are stored offsite can only be requested to a secure special collections desk location.
For the Taylorian we have the 'Taylor Library Special Collections Staffed Collect' location. But how do you order an item? 🤔
For this week's #TopTipThursTAY, let's talk about ordering Taylorian special collections items from offsite!
