We filed suit against the Trump administration (again) today to block the implementation of an unlawful executive order that seeks to undermine inclusion & equal opportunity, threatens government contractors w/ criminal prosecution, & chills protected speech.
These are not normal times.

AAUP NC and UE150 will be marching together to support the NC Association of Educators. Hands Off Higher Ed -- Kids Over Corporations!
Preach, Brother
"This vision for a future of postsecondary education is a recipe for mass immiseration and public disempowerment. Imagine a world where Microsoft, Google, McKinsey, et al … get to determine what and how you learn from cradle to retirement."

Looking forward to being with all our AAUP NC family at our annual meeting, Saturday 10-1!
#MayDayHigherEd is about building a healthy society, not about tearing it down
On #MayDayHigherEd we show our power. When we fight, we win.
#MayDay and every day:
This from the De Santis lackey whose idea of academic freedom is murdering sociology in Florida and telling faculty they are free to abet his actions h/t @erickelderman.bsky.social
(Narrator's voice:) Sadly, the journal also did not exist
Care to elaborate?

They're weak and getting weaker for sure but forgive me for not joining in the chorus saying this regime is cooked because another apocalyptic cut to federal funding for my sector just dropped and the kidnappings in my state have not slowed down (though it seems to have done so elsewhere)
"We've ended DEI - but we need you to give $10 million to pay for conservative professors."
“Pro: Not a politician. Years of leadership experience at TAMU
Con: No academic experience. Never taught students, spent time in a lab or produced research
Will she support the goals of a higher ed institution or continue to remake TAMU into a high school?”
— Leonard Bright, TAMU AAUP President
The preliminary data from the AAUP‘s annual faculty compensation survey is out.
Things are not OK.
“They tried to weaken higher education, but instead they built a movement to fight for the future...
They can attack our institutions, but they cannot stop our movement….We will not stop until we have the higher education system and the democracy we all deserve.”
— Todd Wolfson, AAUP President
RIGHT NOW: UT Austin professors & students are marching to the Texas Capitol to demand an end to classroom censorship & course consolidation.

Today, the AAUP & @aft.org launched our national policy platform to win back an American higher education system that protects the freedom to teach & learn & strengthens our democracy.

Big news out of Maryland!

Huge thanks to @aaup.org, @aft.org, & @aftmaryland.bsky.social for helping us pass this historic legislation!
The Trump admin’s rewriting of rules governing college accreditation “obliterates” autonomy & is is being described as “a cluster bomb being dropped on American higher education.”
Not only did they show us it is possible, they showed us how.
From everyday resistance within civil society institutions to 200K people publicly defying a Pride ban together to this massive electoral mobilization.
It's through showing each other our courage that we build the unstoppable force.
Enthusiastic prosecution of government corruption seems like a winning message that might, y’know, like, travel.
“If this policy stands, politicians & the monied interests who support them will have effectively taken over the curriculum of our institutions in the TTU System, whose credibility will be indefinitely and irreversibly harmed.”
— Andrew Martin, Texas Tech AAUP Chapter President
SCiLL Out of Chapel hill Assembly-April 14 Campus Y 7 PM
Once again our students are leading the way. Republican legislative leaders and their BOT puppets are starving academics at UNC while investing heavily in $10 million coaches and the troubled School of Civic Life and Leadership (SCiLL), their attempt to create a White Cultural Center
Faculty wages decreased and remain below pre-pandemic levels, AAUP's 2025-26 Faculty Compensation Survey confirms.
"Two steps forward, one step back. That's been the story for full-time faculty. For part-timers, it's been no steps forward at all. The AAUP data makes that undeniable."
Let's not forget that Rufo's pernicious influence is also evident in the Florida-led push to replace independent accreditation with state control through the CPHE. And that the UNC System Office is fully complicit in this project.
Iowa recently shuttered it program in African American Studies, during Black History Month, no less, and the Women’s and Gender Studies Department. A university interested in intellectual freedom doesn’t shutter the very departments that emerged in response to movements for broader inclusion in mainstream American life.
Claiming to value "intellecutal freedom" while shutting down African American and Women's Studies reinforces the fact that the center is an authoritarian project, not a sincere attempt to expand intellectual life.
