Honestly it's a fun thing to learn because it's relatably human. It's not exotic/magical, but people being people and having very human hopes and dreams and priorities is great to see.

Still can't get over this, like the whole reason I started making extra copies of the figures was to give to their voice actors and devs so this was a lovely surprise.

Now I gotta get off my ass and finish assembling the Seven 2.0s instead of spending 3 more months reworking his tiny faces lol

It's great, the first book (So You Want To Be A Wizard) is the weakest but between the world, Nita and Kit, and realizing who the antagonist was based on is a good experience, if anything they're even better and more topical now than when it was originally published in 1983 lol

The actual world of her stories is also based on the expectations that souls may be radically different from lifeform to lifeform, but they all still matter and those differences are a blessing.

Her mentor characters have also been a canon committed gay couple since the series began.

Diane Duane's Young Wizards series (+ the Feline Wizards spinoff and other series set in the same canon)
is excellent, and Diane isn't just not an asshole she has gone back and rewritten books in the series based on reader feedback re: rep and depictions of minority life experiences.
