I reaaaaally want to get into Broodcomb Press, on aesthetics alone. Does anybody import them or should I just suck it up and pay the shipping? (And either way, where to start?)

I regret to inform that I have fallen victim to one of the classic blunders: deleting a scratch doc instead of saving it. The loss was only 300-ish words, but sadly REALLY GOOD ONES. Rewriting the whole bit plus another ~2k this morning simply did not feel as good. No further comment at this time.

The back cover of IN THE TIME OF THE BLUE BALL with blurbs from Shelley Jackson, who says "All musical dogs, wolly crabs, children and other detectives of the not-yet-invented should old this book," and China Mieville, who calls the book "Humane, impossible, homely and alien."

If you have not yet learned to treat anyone making this argument with enormous skepticism I do not know how to help you; this is the political equivalent of arguing that a car with a blown engine needs a new coat of paint, but worse because there's actually nothing wrong with the paint.

I once challenged someone online to give me one example of an elected Democrat using the phrase "birth-givers" in place of "women" and they unearthed a single transcript of a three hour long hearing from the Congressional Black Caucus in which it appeared once.

Oh hell yeah. I didn't realize how nice it would feel to fold myself back into the weft of that place, but it's so pleasing to be back amongst them all.

THE SEARCHER is still unforgivably slow and basically all scene-setting for books 2 & 3, absolutely needed a tightening up but THE HUNTER and THE KEEPER are solid stuff.

The Cal Hooper books have grown on me, I think because I've realized that where Tana French's earlier books were crime thrillers, these books are le Carré. It's spy stuff, stranger in a strange land, except doing it down home. When you realize that, the whole trilogy shines quite different, imo.

It's pissing down rain, the first round of leafing out is fully underway, I have my last cup of Fortnums Assam and the new Tana French and nothing else to do with my day until such time as I might—might!—want to write. Perhaps this single lovely day will heal me.

I'm so out of patience with this kind of mockery. Yes, progressive language is jargon-y and occasionally irritating. You know how long ago that started? Roughly the dawn of time. So be irritated privately. But whining about it is like discrediting a picket sign because you hate the font.

i think we just need less of everything. less work, less new stuff happening, less being produced, less bullshit media, less technology. everything in the world needs to be like 30-40% less. except medicine. and sex.

The thing is, having been a part of the show the first time around, Heather Christian performing in ANIMAL WISDOM *is* worth $350/ticket....

If you’re a Hachette author you should be talking to your editors and teams about this. If they’re using AI to counter AI, it’s still AI. And it may also be giving your work to the machine, serving it up on a contractual platter.

they put all of their creative energy into the show and then last Thursday were like "oh, shit, merch... uh, put the cover on a black shirt, that usually works, right?"

why the New Yorker publishes the brilliant Hanif Abdurraqib and then does not put his name in the social media post about his essay is absolutely beyond me, but anyway, the important thing here is that you should always read Hanif

If the current problem isn’t so much lack of funds as immoral appropriation, I have my doubts more funds will correct the latter.
