I regret to inform that I have fallen victim to one of the classic blunders: deleting a scratch doc instead of saving it. The loss was only 300-ish words, but sadly REALLY GOOD ONES. Rewriting the whole bit plus another ~2k this morning simply did not feel as good. No further comment at this time.

Oh hell yeah. I didn't realize how nice it would feel to fold myself back into the weft of that place, but it's so pleasing to be back amongst them all.

THE SEARCHER is still unforgivably slow and basically all scene-setting for books 2 & 3, absolutely needed a tightening up but THE HUNTER and THE KEEPER are solid stuff.

The Cal Hooper books have grown on me, I think because I've realized that where Tana French's earlier books were crime thrillers, these books are le Carré. It's spy stuff, stranger in a strange land, except doing it down home. When you realize that, the whole trilogy shines quite different, imo.

It's pissing down rain, the first round of leafing out is fully underway, I have my last cup of Fortnums Assam and the new Tana French and nothing else to do with my day until such time as I might—might!—want to write. Perhaps this single lovely day will heal me.
